How sad, I dislike this type of control, I'm afraid I'm from the old corner shop era.

Which are quickly going the way of the dodo bird.......and so are the buyers who frequented them

Well, I bought Civ V for $17 last night off of Steam. It's a good game, and I like it. Too streamlined in my opinion though. Civ II and Civ IV were the best, IMHO. But Civ II is my favorite hands down because of the amount of customization. I loved the cheat menu so I could tailor a campaign to just how I like it, for example, I hate dealing with wonders of the world.

But one thing I LOVE about Civ V is the ability to switch to a statistics map without all the graphics and landscape. That's a godsend.

Ok, I went off track on the thread subject, sorry guys! [:D]

I bought EU 3 on Steam with all the expansions for 14.99 a couple of weeks ago. God, I love that game. Best $15 I ever spent.
After 16 years, Civ II still has me in it's clutches LOL!!!
Now CIV IV has me in it's evil clutches!

The times, they are a changing. I simply don't buy PC games in physical form anymore.

Steam has allowed me to play dozens of games that I otherwise never would of gotten to play. They were also on the bleeding edge of the digital distribution model back in the mid 2000s and now they are reaping the rewards of that.

FJ I buy most of my game these day by digital DL. I may be wrong but it appears Steam has their own installers that some people may find offensive, there is a couple of games distributed by Ubisoft I would like to play, but I refuse to buy their games because of their online account requirements. Call me old fashion, but i like to control things in my every day life. [:)]

No, you're probably right about all of it. I just went through astronomically idiotic requirements to get more "activations" from Atari. I say I just went through it, but before I spent any more time on it, I told them to forget it. That if they were the kind of company that is afraid of a 4-5 year old game that is selling for $8 being stolen, then I'd rather spend my time on something else.

Our modern society accepts things as they are, instead demanding what they want. Banks started it decades ago telling us what suits us, cleverly disguised as what really suited them, and now the computer industry does the same.

Actually that has nothing to do with it.
We used to wash clothes with a rock in a river.
We used to travel only on horseback or by foot.
We used to cut down trees with an axe.
We used to play PC games on a screen with ONLY green text and graphics.
2MB used to be a LOT of memory.

Its called progress. It happens regardless if some dont want it to. You can resist it though,...just look at the Amish.
