Can't the board administrators automatically weed out all posters who have a link attachment in a post with less than 10 total posts?

All it would take is some logical if-then statement. Does 2011 website management technology preclude this type of a simple weeding algorythm or am I missing something?

All the more reason to add a little script to the "Ok" button in the message window which checks

1) When the user created his account - less than x days ago -> no links
2) How many posts this user has - less than y -> no links
3) Simply block every new account originating from a Chinese ISP - explain this policy in a sticky and ask real new Chinese customers to contact you by PM

The trouble is that banning their lower behind isn't any good as they only post links here so that Google would give more priority to their scam websites as Google's search algorythms are (partly) based on the number of external sites linking to it. In other words : the damage is already done and banning him or removing the posts serves little purpose.

The only thing which will keep them out permanently is making sure they can't post links in here without spending too much time on it. If you make it too hard for them to post those links, they'll move to another message board.

It might work or it might just make them post more spam before they were able to use links. They tend to post the spam first and then edit signiatures later to add the links so it can look innocent.

I'd be more strict....At least 50 posts before they can add a link, unless they contact the admin......Most spammers probably wont go thru the hassle...
