Well Ian I can help you with that - just offer a 50% discount on everything or a buy one get one free - would save you all that
tedious work changing the prices and changing them back later.

You don't have to thank me.

Then you can go get a beer instead!!

Well, on the bright side, at least there's something to look forward to when the weekend's over.

Meanwhile...I guess I'll just have to play AE for the next couple of days.

update the prices but this wont be available to run till next week. - Arghh Patrick Iain actually didn't promise Monday.[:-]

And I have the same problem as Beerwolf - Soon I'll be forced to use my remaining money to buy something boring, like food or furniture accessories.

On top of that if my wife finds out I have money she'll demand I squander it on jewellery and other worthless garbage for her instead of war games for me. [&:]

How do you keep some a**holes in suspense? Iain will tell us Thursday November 21st, err Monday November 25th, maybe Tuesday November 26th?

Beerwolf is there room in your hibernation cave for two? Assuming I can get a flight to Finland.

Yeah, there's plenty of room left. It just started snowing, so pack some warm clothes and a sharp stick to fend off the bears trying to invade our cave.

I've always been a bit on the cynical side... so I'm thinking even Monday might be a bit early to call the sale. If what they said is true, then they have a ton of editing to do fixing all the individual sale unit prices. Even with an army of trained and motivated circus monkeys at the ready, it would take days, weeks even to get all that done.

Fingers crossed for Monday, but my magic 8 ball says that secret lover might not love us so much after all. Future cloudy. Report back for the 5 o'clock forecast.

Nah Boomer it only takes a couple of hours with this automated thing - trouble is back in the early days of computerized inventory we set one of these automated monstrosities running - we had about 8000 inventory items - it set off merrily - got about 300 items in when we saw that instead of changing the parameter it was deleting the inventory records - stopped it but that couple of minutes it took us about a week to manually replace our inventory records.

And so Dear friend that is how we learned about doing backups before you unleash the beast.

Of course grocery and department stores go through this every week these days changing hundreds or thousands of inventory prices back and forth depending on sale days.

Actually it's kind of weird that a place that specializes in selling computer software would have such a primitive computer sales system that has to be adjusted manually or needs a external company to do it. My own example came from about 1985 and we could change parameters internally prior to that - but my calender says today is Nov. 23 2013.

Also at the risk of making myself unpopular how come nobody noticed they were going to have a problem until the day the sale was supposed to start? Didn't they do any prep work or give any thought to it prior to the sale starting? Having owned and managed a retail chain myself for over 20 years I could be somewhat critical of these business decisions.

I can't recall but do new releases get included in the holiday sale? I just bought Pandora and may wait on World in Flames for the holiday sale if it may get marked down a bit.

Usually, nothing released by Matrixgames in the last year is included in their holiday sale...so don't expect to see any of these titles in the sale:

Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel
Pandora First Contact
World in Flames
Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager
AJE: Parthian Wars
Fantasy Kommander-Eukarion Wars
Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm
Espana 1936
Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations
Civil War II
Battle Academy - Rommel in Normandy
Germany at War: Operation Barbarossa 1941
Command Ops: Battles for Greece
Conflict of Heroes: Ghost Divisions
Panzer Corps Allied Corps
AJE: The Cantabrian Wars - 29BC
AJE: The Spartacus Revolt 73 BC
Distant Worlds: Shadows
Gary Grigsbys War in the East: Lost Battles
Panzer Corps Grand Campaign 1939-1945 mega pack
Battle Academy - Operation Husky
Panzer Corps Grand Campaign 45 West
Unity of Command:Red Turn
AJE: Birth of Rome

I think Ian also responded specifically to a query about WiF saying it wouldn't be part of the sale.

boomer = unfortunately you might be right - since the automated monstrosity they are going to use has no brain - can't tell world in flames from forge of freedom - left to it's own stupid devices

Oh well [>:] - waiting patiently for some kind of development - whatever will be will be[8|]

and Uncc - take civil war II and distant worlds - shadows out of your list will you - I want those two - Iain and Erik take the weekends off - so we still have time to "adjust" our posts
no use getting the lads upset seeing non politically correct information

He was a new recruit. This was to be his first taste of action. While his outer skin was all shiny and new, he felt an odd kind of affinity with the other wallets - their skin worn and scuffed, the result of many a Matrix sale - as he waited in the makeshift trenches with his comrades.

The night had been a long one, full of anticipation. Murmurs around him hopefully suggested that dawn was on the horizon. Some whispered they could see chinks of daylight far off in the gloomy blackness that pervaded their positions.

Yet, save for the murmurs, all was quiet. Wallet after wallet, all lined up and primed to go, waiting for the starburst shell that would indicate the start of the rush. At that, they would all scream like banshees, rising as one, as they clambered up into no man's land and sought to come to grips with their targets.

Their orders were clear. At all costs they were to break out of the pocket, securing their targets with extreme prejudice as they did so.

As he waited with the grizzled vetrans, this shiny wallet knew one thing. The offensive would be short and it was sure to be expensive ... but it would be glorious.

We never announce sales in advance. Nobody does :)

This is from the Slitherine site 3 minutes ago

This is becoming a bit weird.

First, it's announced for everyone to see that there won't be a deal of the week because the sale will start on the 21st.
A day after the sale is supposed to take place, we're told there won't be a sale until the next week as changing all the prices manually would take too much time.
And now it's claimed sales are not announced in advance, even though that's precisely what was done.

By now I'm starting to agree with some of the forum posts on other wargaming websites that Matrix loses a few points on professionalism here, because the communication to the customer isn't clear and it's also odd that the problems were not spotted at an earlier time.

We'll all be very happy when the sale starts, officially, but the road to the sale is bumpy.

Edit: hmm, yeah, it does indeed seem prices have been reduced. In that case, it seems that as a finishing touch to the confusion we get the common situation that something isn't mentioned on the forums or on the website but is changed in the store.

Now that's the right spirit.
