Häxan, (English titles: Haxan, The Witches or Witchcraft Through The Ages) is a 1922 Swedish/Danish silent horror film written and directed by Benjamin Christensen. Based partly on Christensen's study of the Malleus Maleficarum, a 15th century German guide for inquisitors, Häxan is a study of how superstition and the misunderstanding of diseases and mental illness could lead to the hysteria of the witch-hunts. The film was made as a documentary but contains dramatized sequences that are comparable to horror films.

Good historical film.

Started watching Jamestown. Difficult to tell where this will go but it seems watchable at the moment. As per Versailles and Victoria I need to get on the internet and try and find out how much of this is likely to be true or at least based on fact.

Watched The Imitation Game a few days ago. It was a nice enough movie although, I suspect, that it took some liberties with the historical event it describes.

So it is fortunate that Mel Gibson wasn't involved in making the movie... [;)]

Indeed, since in war movies Mel Gibson tends to kill the english. Having Alan Turing singlehanded win the war for the GERMANS might be stretching things just a tad too far.

As to The Imitation Games, I found it ok (and that is after adding points for a Norwegian director, and the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch plays the lead). To me the best part was actually the end, which points to how the system was back in the days. The storyline is good, and it is almost killing me, not knowing what is behind the locked door [:D]
Still undecided on the new companion, but I guess that might be because Ms. Coleman did a very good job.

I have enjoyed all of them apart from Thin Ice. Not the best Dr Who episode I have ever seen.

Best wishes,

With Season 7 about to launch in July, I finally decided to watch Game of Thrones to see what all the fuss is about. I have watched the first two series and I have to say I am hooked. There are some great characters, great acting, and the story lines are, for the most part, gripping in a I-can't-wait-to-see-what-happens-next type way. What is particularly refreshing is that the longevity of a character does not appear fixed, and key players are to be found 'bumped off' with surprising regularity.

The violence is quite strong, as is the language, and it does not hold back on the rumpy pumpy, but all in all, its well worth the investment in time watching!

Spooks (MI5 I think in the US) was another series not afraid to kill off major characters. The face frying incident was a particularly interesting way of doing it.
