Decisive Campaigns Barbarossa vs Fortress Europa

Post by MrsWargamer »

Well it's yippee I got a coupon time here. 50% off means I can't rationalize not indulging myself.

Next purchase is one of these 2.

Leaning towards Fortress, but I like Vic's designs.
I have no shortage of Eastern Front, not much in the way of WEGO.

Anyway, over your opinions guys.

I have both and I would choose Decisive Campaigns any day of the week. It is not WEGO though. There is a North Africa hex game that is WEGO but I haven't played it.

both are good games, but my choice would be Piercing fortress europa ; nice style that covers ground fighting, air power and supply perfectly ;

Decisive Campaigns for me great game with the added extras of making decisions on the bigger scale that isnt in any other game. @rocketman71 you must be on about Desert War 1940-43

Decisive Campaign Barbarossa is a great game, it’s more like a story than a game. It’s best suited (in my opinion) as a solo game as either side. Don’t know anything about the other game.

I would go with DCB versus Fortress Europa. But you definitely want to give Desert War a look if that is an interesting theater for you. Old school counters and a powerful editor that the other games DO NOT have, to their detriment.

Fortress Europa. A path not often taken in wargaming.

Whatever you choose I hope you enjoy the gameplay.

Desert War looks appealing too.

For me, it's always about "what have I not already gamed to death".

Both of these, and Desert War, are great games. I dont think you can go wrong, but I'd take the Wego designs myself.

Close race, but FE is in the lead currently.

WEGO just doesn't get enough love in wargaming.

Pulled the trigger today.

Decisive Campaigns won out in a surprise upset. WEGO and a theatre I don't play a lot were considered the favourite, but, in the end, I know Vic's work, and that made the difference.

I don't know the other game, but I'm pretty confident DC:B should be to your liking. Good fun. I hope you enjoy it.

Have you tested the game yet?

Not as yet.

But, much more of current life (covid etc, winter coming soon), and I'm running out of space for models, Barbies, dolls, and Lego :) I'm likely going to need to resort to computer wargames (which are light on space usage :) ). I sooooo want to play board game wargames, but life often couldn't care less about that eh (as we all so well know).

Board wargames are fun. But I wonder if the cats would just roll the dice and leave the boards and counters alone? [8|]
