Scourge of War Series is discontinued... - ??? AND STEAM

Post by Freyr Oakenshield »

This message:

"Published on August 24, 2022
From September 1st, we will be delisting all the Scourge of War games from our sites and all other 3rd party sites. The games will no longer be available for purchase, and we will consequently stop all support and assistance.

You have one week to add the titles to your libraries. Once bought, the games will remain in your libraries, and you will still be able to recover purchased games from download links. Steam keys will no longer work to redeem the product, so make sure you download your copy on Steam before the end of this month.

Here’s a full list of games that will be going off sale from September 1st [...]

Now, the highlighted sentence is slightly confusing. Does that mean it won't be possible to install these games from Steam on our drives after the deadline...? It's one thing to stop selling these games to new customers or cancel the redeeming (and this I can understand), but a completely different one to actually deprive a customer who already owns them of the possibility to rightfully install them... Why on earth should we install these games on Steam within a month?

I'd appreciate some clarification regarding this aspect. :?: :?: :!:

I do not a link to the actual announcement so I can't see if there is other information.

That said, it is not one month but rather one week from today to download the game. If a person owns it, I suggest doing so and saving it somewhere on their computer plus possibly somewhere else not on their computer but where they can access it later.

Well, Steam has a policy of keeping the games for download even if the developers ceased to exist or even if they simply have left Steam, and that part of the message requires clarification by Matrix.

Their message is either an unfortunate miswording OR a SCANDAL THAT WILL IMMEDITELY FORCE ME TO STOP MAKING ANY FUTURE PURCHASES FROM MATRIX/SLITHERINE ON STEAM.

Actually if you read this, it does appear to me that they will stay in your library and be available to download.

"...so make sure you download your copy on Steam before the end of this month" - this means what it means.

I suggest that you contact support and clarify this. But if it is in your library here at Matrixgames/Slitherine then it sounds like it should continue to be avaialble for download BUT NOT FOR PURCHASE.

Steam keys that you can get from Matrix after you buy the game on Matrix. You have until the stated date to get your Steam key from Matrix and use it on Steam. After that date you can't get a Steam key from Matrix and if you already have one you can't redeem it if you have not already done so.

To me that's what it says. It's not a scam. Although I'm perplexed as to why they are going to drop this game. Maybe the developer is no longer dealing with Matrix as their publisher.

Yes, you can download the game from the Steam library after the 1st of September, if you have already the game in your Steam account.
You've until the 31st of August to redeem Steam keys and activate these in your Steam account, if you haven't done already.

Thanks. That's comforting. :D However, if I were you, I'd change the wording of ""...so make sure you download your copy on Steam before the end of this month" in the message, since it's unnecessarily confusing.

The developer is not planning to continue selling the games or supporting them.

Why not just be clear about why this series is discontinued? I'm sure there must be a good reason, but on the surface, it just doesn't make any sense. I'm just very baffled about this.

They told you: the developers quit. Matrix doesn't want to sell a product when there is nobody to support it.

Why did the developers quit? Can be any personal situation that is private.

If they will no longer be able to make money for sales, maybe they should sell the rights and let new programmers support the code, this would give them a final income boost and the game may be still supported but maybe not aswell but still it would be a boost in final sales
