Strategic Command - which is best for a beginner?

I have all of the strategic command games in my library of shame, and I would like to start playing them, but I am curious, is there one which is more beginner friendly?

The WW2 War in Europe title is probably the easiest to get into. The conflict starts out relatively small and confined ( you don't have to deal with the war in Asia as in World at War, or a multi front war with most of Europe going at it already like in the World War One title.

The American Civil War one I'd only recommend too, but a lot of people for some reason are put off by the huge map, especially those unfamiliar with US/ Mexico geography at that scale. It you get the expansion it does have a lot of smaller conflicts to play like the Franco-Prussian War or Spanish-American War which might make learning the system easier.

If you're new to the Strategic Command series, I would recommend starting with Strategic Command WWII: World at War in here. It is the most recent game in the series and has a more streamlined interface and gameplay mechanics compared to earlier titles.

All the SC titles have pretty much the same interface.

Strategic Command WWII: World at War also has a tutorial mode that walks you through the basics of the game, so it's a great way to learn the ropes.

They all have walk-through tutorials in the manuals as well.

Beginner: Yeah, Euro version.
Best: World at War
The old stuff, let it go.
Squares? Lame, go with the Hexes, toggle the 'g' key, I think to turn on in WaW.

PBEM against human opponent is slow, but that's life in this genre.
Play some against A.I. is okay, for the beginner.

The U.S. Civil War game, the engine isn't wasn't for me.
Victory Games had the best board version.

Life is short, It's Now or Never

It depends on who is familiar to what conflict. WW1 can be easier or the second. For non modern world or not WW1 consequences still in current world politics and news. As it was in Balkans in 90's. WW'1 good place to invest time on history.
