Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45 - Whoa!

Post by Charles2222 »

I've just heard about this mod. It's from Unreal Tournament (which I don't possess) and it's due out to the stores, which I'm not sure will have the UT on it or not, but please forgive my lack of knowledge here. I have picked some sparse facts through looking around. Check this:

I'm not sure if it's a multi-player only game or not.

This is no mod.

This is an upcoming new stand alone game.

Its based on the old Unreal mod.

This is built from scratch.

Yep, I played the mod, pretty good and I think this looks excellent from a first person perspective.

Does this one allow single play (like BF2)? I remember there was a bot release for the mod version previous.

It was always the best UT mod by a mile. It will be interesting to see if they can offer enough new material and improvements to compete in a very crowded market-place.

I used to play it in its early stages. It was very good by then. I'll probably pick up the new full release.

Yeah I knew it had something to do with UT as a mod, but wasn't sure just what. It looks like they put a lot of effort into more than just the graphics, from a few things I've been reading.

It is interesting though, that the crosses on the Tiger are damaged and not the same way either.

A "bot" is a sort of computer controlled multiplayer opponent, if that makes sense. It means you can play 'multiplayer' games alone, or make up the numbers if there are only a few of you. The "singleplayer" in the Battlefield games, for example, is really just playing the standard game against bots, and nobody seriously considers the games to have a singleplayer mode at all.

They are really only any good for practice, and learning the maps. I don't know if this will have a proper singleplayer mode or not - from what Wodin says, it seems not. It would need an awful lot of work as UT2003/4 only offered bot play as well, even if dressed up as a sort of campaign. No criticism - the game is just pure multiplayer and was always intended to be.

This game and the mod are two different things altogether.

The are using the Unreal engine just like many other game shave done. However the MOD and this game arent the same.

Having red the blurb, I'm less than convinced of that. Sure its stand-alone, but there have been stand-alone releases of Counter-strike and Day of Defeat, too. Both were really just the same mod with go-faster stripes - they just included the host code as well.

We'll see, I guess.

Please get your facts straight.

The original Red Orchestra was a mod for UT2004. The mod got so successful that the designers are releasing it as a stand alone game. Which means you don't have to own UT2004.

It is exactly the same game as well as gameplay and you can play online with players who own the mod or the store bought game. This is exactly the same thing as Counterstrike did.

*edit*

Now they may add to (like counterstrike did) by adding bots, or different maps. But is still the same game and compatable with the mod version.

Its been built from scratch using the unreal engine. It isnt a retail version of the mod.

So Im not wrong in anyway. Where the hell did I say you need UT to play this game? Can you read?

"The original Red Orchestra won Nvidia's "$1,000,000 Make Something Unreal" contest. Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is a standalone follow-up, built on Epic’s Unreal EngineTM 2.5, that introduces new gameplay and features."

“We already knew the mod was genius, but this is even better”

"Based on the most highly-acclaimed mod ever made, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is now a full-featured, stand-alone World War II game that brings players to the frontlines of Eastern European combat during the height of World War II. Players choose from 28 infantry weapons or crew one of 14 detailed vehicles on the Russian Front between 1941-45. The combination of roles across more than one dozen maps, based on real-world locations and battles, allows Red Orchestra to finally achieve its goal of delivering a full first-person, World War II infantry and vehicle combat simulation."

Ive played the mod......wasnt keen........

This has more features and new graphics......
Sue me if you want to;)

Being released through STEAM apparently.

Not sure if there will be another publisher for a CD version or not - if there is I expect it to be EA.
