Agreed, 300 was by far to Hollywoodized. The 65' classic was so MUCH better.

Sadly movies today are more Hollywood set rather then classic or more historic in nature, if the film doesn't sell they refuse to make it. Perfect example of this was a HBO special on the marines at Fallujah, Iraq which I was stationed in 03 to 05. Anyhow a good 80% of the film was nothing more then over-exaggerated hollywood style flick. I would say they got the names right, uniforms and weapons, the rest was over acted garbage not even close to what actually happened. However I admit while it was suppose to give an "idea" of what happened, but it was suppose to be documentary.

Golan and Globus who made a lot of action movies were on a news segment many years back. They would go to conventions and all they would have would be ideas and a few posters. No script, no plans. they would sell the concept raise the money and then only do a script. Hollywood is a money machine and now I would suspect most movies are being put out on spec and see who salutes with a big ball of cash. Once cash is there then worry about the script.

300 wasn't hollywoodized, it was frankmillergraphicnovelized. It followed it quite well, even if I didn't particularly like either.

As to Golan-Globus, I've always considered them synonymous w/ crap. Now I know why. Thanks ool.

After reading these, I have to admit that my favorite Movie Scene of all time is the scene of the deployment of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

I have always like the scene in Frauline Doktor where the German WW1 cavalry with horses and men in gas masks charge the enemy during a gas attack on the French.
2nd is the scene in Zulu Dawn when they spot the impi's at the water hole.
3rd is from The wind and the lion, when the Americans march thru the street to attack the Morrocans.

Darned right.  I took it over for my Dad to watch and came in yesterday when he was watching the crossing scene at Niimegen.  "Hail Mary--Full of Grace.  Hail Mary--Full of Grace."  The film just sucked me right back in!  Love Gene Hackman in the film as the Polish General "God Bless Field Marshall Montgomery."
