I bought Jagged Alliance 2 and thoroughly hated it. Its faults are too numerous to list completely, but especially memorable is the perfectly infuriating way Line-of-Sight is handled. I never could understand why the games magazines in Europe and the USA fawned about this stinker so obnoxiously. After I tried it I promptly went back to the first XCOM-Game, which is 6 years older and still far better.

The Russian developers are welcome to try and make a better game out of JA2, but I won't touch the result.

By the way, this so-called "Smart Pause Mode" sounds a lot like the realtime game play of Baldur's Gate; with BG you can configure the realtime mode to pause automatically when certain events occur.

Too bad for you ... JA2 is probably one of most enjoyable (and maybe the most) game I have ever played and I am now looking for JA3 - since the JA franchise had been bought by Strategy First.

I was gloating when Sir-Tech went under, and now Strategy First is going to continue the unholy tradition. :(

Someone wishing a game company under? You want a company to bust wish for those responsible for "extreme" games and deer hunter/deer avenger...*shudder* such crap.

No, the JA franchise is outstanding to those who like that genre, and a JA3 would be great. I just hope they don't goof it.

The one thing I didn't like about JA2 was the end with the tanks. A bit overwhelming at times.

Someone wishing a game company under?

Well, under the circumstances it was completely justified.

Consider this:

One of my characters is lying flat on his belly in the middle of a wide flat roof. A enemy character kneeling on the ground outside the building spots him anyway and hits him too!

One of my characters is lying between two huts, completely sheltered from sight. A enemy sees him anyway and shoots him through the hut.

Enemy soldiers with the worst hand-guns outshoot my characters who have the best rifles, both in term of range and accuracy. Enemies can also see much farther than my own characters.

Killed enemies almost never have their equipment on them when I search their bodies.

These are just some examples, I could go on for much longer.


These and some other faults sompletely killed my enjoyment of this game. The developers took almost three years to make the game. They sure as hell knew these faults and obviously didn't spend any time to correct them. That is not just sloppy, it shows a profound disrespect for gamers.

People who actually enjoyed the game probably concentrated on the story-line and the well-done characterization and ignored the problems.

Well, I think we should ask a moderator to move this discussion to the Art of Wargaming forum ... because it is not really Matrix related

You have the right to dislike this game ... even if most of the reviewers like it ... but to write that you are happy of a small independent software developer death is really disgusting ... especially in the board of another small independent sofware developer :mad:

Just to clarify-I didn't post this to hipe JA2 or 3, although I'am a big fan of the series.

I posted it because of the 'SPM' mentioned in the original post, I've not seen it before and felt it might be of interest to gamers and game designers.
