OS X: Matrix titles that work in Wineskin

Post by OnTheContrary »

I'm on OS X with no access to Windows so I'm just trying my luck with what works in Wineskin (http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com).

Here's what I've tried so far:

1. LnL: Heroes of Stalingrad - works out of the box
2. Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm - intro avis (Matrix and developer logo) have to be disabled, otherwise works perfectly
3. Command Ops: Bulge + HTTR - needs some light work after applying the patch/expansion, then works perfectly

I wrote a simple guide for LnL in its sub forum and at this point will likely replicate the required process for the other two games. I'll test Distant Worlds and Decisive Campaigns first though, even if they likely will not work as they depend on .NET and support for this used to be flaky in Wine.

I'll update this thread/post once I know more. In the meantime, it would be great if others who are successfully running things in Wine posted their experiences here.

As suspected, the .NET hurdle seems to be impossible to clear. There is support for it in Wineskin but the entire installation seems to be somewhat buggy and I suspect it hides a window during the installation process which makes it impossible to complete it. Default .NET installation via the game installer fails.

Either way, DW does not work in Wine, which is a damned shame because that one's my favorite.

Under Wine .NET, DirectX, VBrun and stuff like that need to be installed using winetricks.

That's what I meant by "There is support for it in Wineskin...". This still seems to be unreliable.

Thanks for starting this thread.

I guess this also means Conquest of Heroes may also not work. If I have some free time later this week, I'll give CoH a try anyway. Maybe there have been others who have tried it with Wineskin or Crossover & can give their comments?

Please do.

In the meantime, I have posted instructions for FPC:RS and Command Ops in their respective sub forums.
