Recruiting Beta Testers for War in the East II

Post by Erik Rutins »

Hi everyone,

If you have a lot of free time and are looking for something to do, why not join our expanding beta test team for the upcoming Gary Grigsby's War in the East II? We're looking to add a large number of testers over the next week to help us put the new game and scenarios through their paces.

In addition to getting a personal look at the beta stage of the game, if you are an active and helpful tester you may qualify for a discount or even a free copy at release.

If you're interested, please complete the NDA application here:

http://www1.matrixgames.com/beta/cnda.asp?gid=605

Regards,

- Erik

Eric -- The NDA etc appears to be on a non-secure site.

It uses the old site's recruitment system. The old site did not use HTTPS, but as long as you are not using a shared public access point when signing up, that should not be a concern. It is otherwise secure.

What user name and password are they asking for?
Favoritism is alive and well here.

What user name and password are they asking for?

Also this. No idea what's asking for. Trying to login (at the top of the page, left hand side) sends the browser into overdrive about how compromised the login process is.

Could you post a screenshot of the security warnings you are seeing? This is the same old system we used for many years without issue and without any complaints from people's browsers. It could just be that browsers are being more paranoid about HTTPS now, but would be good to have more specifics.

To be clear, it should be asking for your Matrix Games forum login and password. If you have unified your account, this is the same as your site login and password but for folks who have not it's the forum one it wants.

I have contacted the users having problems to join this beta, so check your PM inbox [;)]

If any other is suffering the same problem, please send a PM or an email to:
fernandoturi AT slitherine DOT co DOT uk

This way we can see in detail what is going on and fix it so you do not have to suffer it again in the next beta or have multiple accounts to deal with...

Thanks!

Site loads as:
http://www1.matrixgames.com/beta/cnda.asp?gid=605

> Not using https

If you try to access the link using https:
https://www1.matrixgames.com/beta/cnda.asp?gid=605

Firefox displays a warning: "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead"
Select Advanced and get text:
"Web sites prove their identity via certificates, which are valid for a set time period. The certificate for www1.matrixgames.com expired on 22/10/2019.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN"

SSL error seems to be:

Unable to communicate securely with peer: requested domain name does not match the server's certificate.
HTTP Strict Transport Security: false
HTTP Public Key Pinning: false

Whilst clicking View Certificate links to a page confirming the expiry date (Validity Not After) of 22/10/2019, 15:06:38 (British Summer Time).

The fact that you are looking for “a large number of testers” is sign to be VERY excited about.
Means you are expanding your closed BETA.

That can only mean you are getting confident...

I don't really know what that means. If you were part of the first Beta wave, please reply to the invite e-mail you received and let me know in more detail what the problem is please.

Erik,

Haven't played a lick of WiTE: I, but I am an experienced gamer-mostly from the WiTP:AE perspective of this site/forum. Are you looking for WITE noob 'blank sheets of paper', or are you trying to find people with enough experience in the first iteration to compare and contrast?

I saw this thread, and the only thought to occur to me was "I hope this is finished soon, so I can get the game I actually want, Steel Tigers."

I'm sure WitE 2 will be impressive. But I want Steel Tigers. And likely won't see any sign of it until WitE 2 is old enough to be on the Christmas sale list.
