So Smooth: New forum

Post by ernieschwitz »

I've been thinking about why I don't like the new forum, visit less, and am less likely to post.

The problem is not with the people here, so that is at least something ;) No the problem lies in that everything is so glossy and smooth. By that I mean that when I look at a forum, or the forums start page for that matter, I can't at an instant see where I want to go. Everything is slick, smooth, and so hard to distinguish from each other, that my eyes just slip past what could be interesting forum posts or interesting forums.

This lack of distinctiveness is really a problem. I see more posts in the wrong place than ever before. This is just one indicator.

I feel I've given the new forum a good chance now, and I can say, that I don't really like it. I wish someone would do something about it, but they probably won't. What is your feeling about the forum? Does it work for you? And why/why not?

The only technical problem I have with this new forum is that it sometimes takes a long time to load. I assume that is the result of being a part of the same site as the Store, Community, and My Page.

I miss the familiarity of the old forums which reminds me of the line from the song At The Zoo by Simon & Garfunkel: "Orangutans are skeptical of changes in their cages" but then I think of a couple of lines from a song by The Beatles: "I've got to admit it's getting better / A little better all the time." :)

I agree that the different sub-sections make things harder to get to. If there was at least a section heading (Matrix Announcements, Stickied Threads, New Content) it would help us skip over what we are not interested in.
