missing SAVEGAME.TMP

Post by Pappy10 »

I've been playing various versions of Close Combat for many years. However, when I try to install them on a new Windows 10 computer, something is going wrong. No errors are reported during installation, but when I try to play a game, such as the full campaign, the game starts to load ("generating game") but then reports this error:

Close Combat was unable to open the file
C:\Users\myname\Documents\Close Combat Gateway to Caen\\Temp\SAVEGAME.TMP

Yes, that's double backslashes in the path.

So far, I've had this problem with both Gateway to Caen and Panthers in the Fog.

Perhaps during installation, the required files are not being created because the installation files are so old that Windows 10 doesn't process them appropriately?

Any ideas how I can fix this problem so I can play my old games?

install the game as admin, then run it as admin, so it sets up the correct file permissions to run and play and also save

in the above link shows a guide, in the below links shows some of the files and folders which can be added to windows 10 to make it more compatible

Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 26100) (26100.ge_release.240331-1435) 24H2
