I can't figure out why my tankers ain't refueling my fleet, neither auto nor manual setting would work. All they do is RTB to the nearest port when running dry.
Any advice? Thanks!

Most stations and ships have one roll and it followsthe rule "there can be only one". If you unlock medium Freighters and a Medium Freighter is the only thing in that Role, all small ones will automatically upgrade like they would upgrade to include new hyperdrives.zederfflinger wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:27 pm1. I haven't specifically seen anyone do this in DW2, but in the first game you could upgrade to a larger port, so I imagine that you still can.Philoponus wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:17 pm More questions![]()
How does upgrading stations to different sizes work?
1. Can I upgrade a small space port to a medium spaceport or do I have to build a new one?
2. What about mining station after you research bigger ones?
Thanks![]()
2. You can just design the large mining station and retrofit the old ones to the new standard .
However Spaceports are the exception in that they do have Small/Medium/Large roles that differentiate based on size.
Based on DW1 experience I am 90% sure the game will Upgrade to medium and Large spaceports, using the thresholds You find under Empire, Policy, Construction.
1. Mebnar shortage:zederfflinger wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2022 11:37 pm I have a few questions that I would appreciate some help with.
1. I made the mistake of running out of Mebnar in my first game with no way of mining it at the moment. There are several
sources that I could mine, but I can't build a mining station without Mebnar. A nearby Independent colony has plenty of the
stuff, but I'm not sure how to get it. Will the private economy grab some of it for me, or am I stuck?
2. Is there anyway to compare techs side by side on the research screen? I think that I remember someone doing this on a
stream, but I don't know how to do it. Not a major thing by any means, but it would be nice to be able to do it.
Anyways, I'm really enjoying the game so far, and am looking forward to many hours of empire building for years to come!
You should have mining ships, that should go and get it. The game builds one long before the 1st Civil Freighter. As merchant guild you can even controll them.
As the indy has some, your and the indepedant freighters should transport it. Asuming they can reach.
2. I am not sure why you want to compare techs?
Generally there are 2 variants (faster and more fuel efficient engines).
And any racial engine will be better then both generic ones, but with multiple races there can be multiple variants.
Fighting with the tankers myself. They seem to ignore all fleet orders, including movement.
Under Empire, Policy, Military there is a bunch of options "Automatically X Manual Ships". Have you tried turning that one on?
Re: DW2 FAQ/QnA megathread - Ask your question here!
I figured it out. I had to individually select each tanker and had them set on auto.

Thanks a lot for all your answers.
Next question:
Does researching several projects have any negative effects in comparison with researching always only one project?

The progress is cut by 1/X, with X being the number of concurrent Projects
It is unsure how the risk of research failure works, and if workign longer increases it.
Positives:
It is the only way to research when you have a crash project running.

Q: How do fleet stances work, specifically how is a defensive fleet suppose to work? What settings do you need to make them actually work?
I set a fleet to Defend, set their home base and give them a guard job at the base. The engangement range is set to system. The orders state "Defend targets in the same system as ...". The Attack Stance is set to aggressive, just to be sure.
First of all, the guard command does not move the fleet to the object. But even if the fleet is at its guard post the observed behavior does not make sense to me:
If an enemy fleet attacks a base somewhere in the system the defense fleet just sits and does nothing. Moving the fleet manually to the base or planet it is suppose to defend does not lead to an engangement either. Only ships that are fired upon, enter combat. The remaining ships sit right beside their brethren being blasted out of orbit and do nothing.
I am sure this cannot be a bug as that would be a glaring oversight. But at the moment it feels like im battling the game...
Any pointers to a tutorial are greatly appreciated.

Same for armies.
Logically most attack and invasion fleets need a ton of extra range, including potentially Tankers
While Defense fleets can skimp on Range, Repair and shields (being always closer to a friendly base).
Guard Command:
With all commands, you have to consider the Engagement rules. Namely if they have the range and firepower to engage the enemy fleet.
But personally I am also fighting with those.
Re: DW2 FAQ/QnA megathread - Ask your question here!
Ship parts were produced and stored in the predecessor. Is this still the case in Distant Worlds 2? I did not find any screen for that.
Re: DW2 FAQ/QnA megathread - Ask your question here!
this is what is said in game manual:

any reason for that? How do I actually request from enemy something in peace deal?
this is what I see when negotiating peace deal:The combination of War Score and War Weariness will determine
how willing an enemy Empire is to end a war once it has started and
how much they might want in order to end it. Generally speaking,
if you want a system that has been conquered to change hands
again, you’d best make sure you get it back before the war ends.
Contested space stations, captured characters and other sweeteners
like research or credits are the most likely to be exchanged in order
to secure a peace deal.

Re: DW2 FAQ/QnA megathread - Ask your question here!
No, that is no longer the case. It goes directly from resources to Ship Components. The construciton yard is the only item needed.

Just discovered I've got the Mortalen on my SE border. Naturally they're angry, I assume that's how they go thru life.
Question: is war the only thing they do or can they be bribed enough to calm down?
In my first play thru in order to learn stuff I've been gifting my way into colonizing independents and focusing mostly on economics.
Do I now need to go full war footing with the Mortalen because the point of a blaster is the only thing they undestand?
Don't want to waste time and money on diplomacy on them if it leads nowhere.

Generally Governments can be classed as "good" or "Evil". Each one works better with itself. Having matching Governments helps. Also the "Evil" governments in DW1 cared less for Reputation, I expect they work the same way in DW2.

Playing as humans and we're a democracy. Mortalen gov't is military dictatorship.
I'm thinking we're not going to ever be exchanging Christmas cards.
What I'm trying to get a bead on is this: are they all war all the time with everyone or at the very least races with a diametrically opposed government on their border?
I need to figure out rather quickly if I need to go to an all out war footing here or are they simply a long term project I need to get rid of down the road.
As an example: there are clans in Shogun 2 who are hostile toward pretty much everyone, and if you share a border it's war and they're coming at you sooner than later.

I think it is mostly based on ingame factors. Like the missmatching Government, not having a shared enemy, etc.3asytarg3t wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 3:35 am Playing as humans and we're a democracy. Mortalen gov't is military dictatorship.

However, thus far I only ever got war declared on me due to First Contact Events.

It looks like the boxes with "X" in them indicates a missing image....if this is what they are supposed to look like, disregard my comment.zgrssd wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 2:08 amI have no idea what you mean.Rangerstrider wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 1:12 am I seem to be missing some of the troop images...

Not a missing Image. That is the NATO/Wargame indicator for "Infantry". They had to cut those particular unit Icons to get the game out the door.Rangerstrider wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 4:53 amIt looks like the boxes with "X" in them indicates a missing image....if this is what they are supposed to look like, disregard my comment.zgrssd wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 2:08 amI have no idea what you mean.Rangerstrider wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 1:12 am I seem to be missing some of the troop images...

Stations can for now only be Blown up. No way to get tech from them.alexmannen91@gmail.com wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 10:25 am How do i scuttle a space port i claimed and repaired to get all techbonuses? it seems its just blown up

You could try retrofti, but I am 90% sure you do not get tech from that one - yet.
Merging two fleets:
1. Disband the 2nd fleet
2. Military, Military Ships (F11)
3. Filter for "Not in Fleet".
