Erik, could you prefix the patch note with the day it is released? I don't play each day and sometimes I don't know when I stopped reading the notes or what can affect my ongoing game

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
Hi,
I hopped on briefly to try out the new patch; I do hope it's making a difference for those that have been struggling with bugs & crashes. Just wanted to report a minor bug has appeared in the galaxy screen in 1.0.2.4, systems are being highlighted / "mouse over" when then cursor is nowhere near.
Looks like it affects primarily the default view ('B'), it's difficult to describe so I've attached a picture. When the cursor is in free space between systems, then the game seems to think that systems "up" from the mouse position are being highlighted.
Picture shows the approximate mouse position (large red circle) and the system "Reshe" at the top shows it's detailed information as if the mouse is hovering over it.
I'm still trying to pin down the "disappearing notifications / messages" bug, I think it might be related to having too many overlays or draw calls, as it seems to happen when the game is struggling a little, but I'll post here if I find anything reproducible.

big stutter on attack, and destroy missions
(other then sound effects, it killed my immersion and i just quit it)
(have to say im extremely saddened upon the state of this game, being a massive dwu fan, i copped out today and brought the game, telling myself i'll wait a long long time for it to improve, well guess what i regret it!) look i know dwu had a difficult start too, thats why i originally named myself jezwhywhy, well now im reminded, jezwhywhywhyyyyandhow did dw2 come out like this
but yeah i threw my money at ya, im really hoping 6 months time, all the things currently really screwed up gets improved, like how is soundfx that bad, why is 100% of the game copy and paste of dwu with less features and content? am i missing something?
seriously and soz for being negative, but seriously im sad af i wanted to worship this game like i do dwu, that game is genius
guess im gonna forget about this game for a while

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
Distant Worlds Universe IS Distant Worlds 1 with 3 expansions, you cannot expect a sequel to be as full fledged as the previous game with such a small dev team. Its very very unrealistic expectation which is bound to get you disappointed.jesuswhywhy wrote: Thu Mar 24, 2022 3:54 am big stutter on attack, and destroy missions

I am sorry, but saying this is a copy and paste job is an extremely insensitive comment on your part considering the game was redesigned from the bottoms up.

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
Performance is still great with the latest patch all the way to endgame and its also solved a nagging ctd that starts to crop up around mid game when things really start to heat up and most of the empires are visible on the galaxy map. However overlays especially the long range sensor really do eat up the fps even on a higher end system like mine. Granted I'm running at 4k so there is that. Also the game doesn't seem to touch the logical cores on usage but really hammers the physical cores pegging some at 100% while the logical cores barely break 10% usage or less.

Also automation for migration seems bugged my colonies are receiving races that have horrible suitabilities for that planet
There's one more feedback that i also made a post about it in the forums, please let us retrofit ship classes to different designs so i could have three types of escorts in my fleet for example. Thanks for the game have a great day

Is there a problem with the economy in the latest build or am I missing something?
My cashflow is positive 3965 and the private cashflow is positive 149k. Empire balance is 2675 and dropping, private balance is over 4.5 mill. Why is my balance dropping? It will occasionally jump to just over 4k and very rarely to 8k but then rapidly drops again.

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
Maybe useful feedback.
Been playing 1.0.2.4 for maybe 20 hours or so, on admittedly a good gaming rig, and it runs very well, maybe 1 CTD during that time. Generally playing on max size and stars with no events or victory conditions. Even with almost complete exploration and visibility of other empires the map and menus are issue-free and smooth.
This makes me optimistic that it is mostly a question of optimisation and catching edge/corner cases thrown up by various combinations of hardware and systems.
The PC gaming deployment environment is not clean or predictable, some stuff just needs to be hammered out after deployment and the amount of effort that is going into that is good to see.
Thanks for all the hard work to the devs and the community.

Can we get this pinned? I am not saying there's a definite chance it will migrate to the 2nd page or even farther, but it was about two threads away from going to the 2nd page.

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
Unfortunately, another CTD in version 1.0.2.4 this evening. No crash log generated.
Happened while scrolling out from a system containing a hive ship. I'd only been playing around 20 minutes.
Save file, session log and dxdiag attached.
Hopefully I'll get to finish this game eventually (I'm invested now!), happy to keep testing on every patch though. The 1.0.2.4 patch did seem to perform a little better, but there are still many significant performance issues with overlays, especially in the research screen. I have to ensure I deselect everything and zoom in before entering the research screen now or it's 4FPS for me.
I'm more confident that disappearing / missed messages is (poor) performance-induced. Ensuring overlays are switched off and zooming in to reduce the number of draw calls seems to help.
It may be important to troubleshooting depending on how notifications/events are being handled or queued so I'll mention it; I have seen some significant delays between interface actions and their corresponding events. For example, I've seen some Diplomacy actions take several in-game days to be responded to, or appear in the notifications. I thought one empire hadn't responded to a gift I sent but the response simply took a couple of weeks! There also seems to be a spike in lag at month-end, and the game does not pause instantly - cash flow for example, keeps flowing for a few seconds after the game is paused.
Feels like the game's running away from itself sometimes and I have to pause to let it catch up every so often - admittely i do spend a lot of time at 2x. I used to go 4x but it just can't handle it mid-late game.
Hope that helps, anyway!

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.4)
I suddenly experienced multiple CTDs last night and tonight, on 1.0.2.4, about every 20 minutes. I haven't had too many problems with crashes before, one crash last week during a long play session, but since 1.0.2.4 (I wasn't able to play Monday or Tuesday), it crashes about every 20-30 minutes. Usually while paused, I've had it happen on ship design screen, budget screen, automation policies, or zooming in on a planet. I don't think it's happened while time is moving, ironically. I did the troubleshooting steps, and went back in, tried to design a ship and it happened again. I uploaded the log/save/DxDiag files through the report link.
Just when I get the hang of a game, I buy two more...

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.6)
The first post has been updated to reflect the new 1.0.2.6 update, which we recommend for all players. Please note this important advice:
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are still having any crash or launch issues with DW2, we recommend taking the following steps prior to playing with 1.0.2.6 to make sure corruption from previous crashes is not causing any ongoing issues:
1. Delete the gamesettings and gamestartsettings files in the /data/ sub-folder of your installation directory (In Steam right-click on the game in your library, then choose Properties -> Local Files -> Browse. On GOG you can find this through Manage Installation -> Show Folder)
2. Delete any old saved games in the /data/savedgames sub-folder of your installation directory.
3. Verify all installation files (in Steam right-click on the game in your library, then choose Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Files. On GOG it is Manage Installation -> Verify/Repair).
4. If you still experience issues, please check in on the tech support sub-forum at Matrix Games or Steam and follow the reporting procedures there to share your log files with us.

Re: Distant Worlds 2 - Latest Update (1.0.2.6)
Confession:
I did not follow the troubleshooting steps above.
Initial impressions of 1.0.2.6 though; that's a significant improvement! There are a couple of hiccups still (missed messages, occasional periods of slow game / fps) but overall this feels a LOT smoother in mid/late game!
I expect some of my issues will be down to continuing with existing settings & game so I'll look forward to trying that once I'm done.
Can I just say, it's very impressive to improve multithreading support so quickly, that's a very quick turnaround!

Something wrong with latest update. I see constant messages that I haven't specific resources but I have them.
For example I can't build any mining station coz I haven't Nekros Stone.
Save is attached.

A minor but insanely annoying bug - Independent ships are repeatedly notifying me that they've spotted a collosal ship in x system. I know, it's mine.
I get multiple messages about this per in-game day

I have a save game that reliably reproduces the "notifications disappearing too soon" bug, please see attached.
On my system, the messages disappear long before they are supposed to, after 2-3 seconds. Should be plenty of messages appearing for you to check against.
