Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.8 (How to Access and Change List)
Just updated the original post to reflect the 1.0.4.8 beta update, which we have just released, to correct a maintenance cost issue with manual ship designs in 1.0.4.7.

I was wondering.
Could we have a feature where Ambassadors can be sent on a mission towards neutral Independent planets to convince them to join us? The success should be based on
- Ambassador skill
- Distance from the Capital
- enemy Pirates present in the system/planet
Ambassadors in DW2 can help with Empires, Independents and Pirate Factions. In fact, _not_ having an ambassador assigned to a faction can also cause possible diplomatic penalties.

- Erik
How are Ambassadors supposed to work?Erik Rutins wrote: Fri Apr 29, 2022 3:29 pm [...]
Changes in 1.0.4.7:
[...]
CHARACTER SKILLS
- character skills at a location are now applied with diminishing values. Thus the best character for a skill applies 100% of their skill level, but all subsequent characters only apply a steadily diminishing proportion of their skill for that area (thus 100%, 50%, 25%, etc). This means that is is often better to spread characters across multiple locations instead of concentrating them at a single location, e.g. admirals and generals in multiple fleets, scientists in multiple research stations, etc.
[...]
Stumbled upon this when checking [1.0.4.8] for diminishing values - they work - when I've noticed, that my Ambassador is granting all his skills to the Location Bonuses of the capital of the empire he is designated to work on in our own empires favor, not theirs.

Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.8 (How to Access and Change List)
Concerning manual ship designs. I might simply be dense and missed it but is there a way to mark a specific manual design to not be automatically upgraded by the AI but still leave it on for everything else? I have a certain colony ship design I like to use but after I make it the AI refits it to its own standard and I have to do the design all over again when I want to make more of those types of colony ships.Erik Rutins wrote: Fri May 27, 2022 12:58 pm Just updated the original post to reflect the 1.0.4.8 beta update, which we have just released, to correct a maintenance cost issue with manual ship designs in 1.0.4.7.

Yes, when you go to the list of designs (Ship Construction | Ship Designs), there is a column labeled Auto Design (3rd from the right. In that column, you can click on the word Automatic and it should change to Manual. That design should no longer be automatically updated.
If by 'leave it on for everything else', you mean the automatic design, just make sure the designs you want to be updated say Automatic.
Hope this helps.

Hah. I thought the entire line was static info and I was puzzled as to where the setting to change it would be. Never occurred to me to click the name itself. These are the little ui snaggles we had to learn in dwu.

Thanks!

During beta I was told the same thing - and I couldn't believe it. It's the last thing I thought would have been clickable.SirHoraceHarkness wrote: Sun May 29, 2022 5:02 amHah. I think I'm going to wait for several iterations of bug fixing, QOL and optimizations before returning to the game.
This game has some of the best 4X space games concepts for me but really needs more polish.
The other day, by mistake I fitted a colonization module on my large mining station design and the private economy simply retrofitted to that design from a design costing about 10k to an updated one costing about 50k
... there goes my private economy down the drain
The above was just an example among too many that need addressing and have been posted in the forum.
At the moment there are just too many things that need fixing, from the initial game setup that often doesn't follow the settings you specify for your game to those issues you then find out in-game. The worst being that some of them are only noticeable when you are already far into a playthrough and just break the playthrough.
For me though, it's definitely worth it to give it some time for these issues in this game to be worked out and hopefully in a few weeks or a couple of months the experience will be much better.

It needs something to highlight it like a different border or font with a dividing line between the static info and the changeable settings.Scott2933 wrote: Sun May 29, 2022 2:15 pmDuring beta I was told the same thing - and I couldn't believe it. Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.9 (How to Access and Change List)
Now that 1.0.4.8 has become official, the change list in the first post has been reset and now reflects the new round of beta updates, starting with 1.0.4.9.
Please give the 1.0.4.9 beta a try as it includes a few additional key fixes in areas relevant to 1.0.4.8's improvements which did not get done in time for 1.0.4.8.

Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.9 (How to Access and Change List)
im conflicted with multiple opinions
one opinion (the nice one is) we are all playing this game to get the best game out of it in time
another opinion (deep in the pit of hell is) oh ffs another pointless patch that follows a very broken model of cyberpunk/stellaris/star citizen of just capture of mob of fools and laugh at them
to be constructive though is, just work on an expansion that solves all the current issues, and i'll pay again because i believe in dwu, and we'll get there again hopefully <3
i'll go for my time out now

Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.9 (How to Access and Change List)
Every patch so far has been useful for making the game better? I haven't seen anything remotely resembling dlc glut where they make you pay for features that should have been in the base game? This seems pretty unfair to the good work they are doing..

I only miss the auto savegame upload feature at crash.
Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.9 (How to Access and Change List)
Should we be posting feedback or does the game auto-report crashes?

Since Fuel Tankers work much better than before - thanks
There are easy to catch situations when a ship should wait for a Fuel Tanker en route to fill up it's tank.
Here is one of these occasions:
The fleet is on it's way home and one ship is definitely not able to finish the last jump.
A fleet tanker has been ordered automatically to transfer fuel.
At this point everything is working perfectly. Yes, the fuel could have been transferred before the first jump - the tanker was nearby, too. But as long as the fuel gets transferred while not in hyperspace, who cares.
What happens next?
Well, as expected, the ship jumps away. The fuel tanker, not able to catch up before, follows into hyperspace.
Eventually the fuel runs out and the speed drops to about a third. Now the fuel tanker can catch up and thinks it can fulfil it's duty and stops. But the dry ship just continues it's slowed jump toward the destination. At some point the fuel tanker realizes that there is no ship to be fueled and jumps again.
Long story short:
when a ship hasn't enough fuel to finish it's jump - the game knows this, see yellow dashed max fuel = jump range
check whether a fuel tanker has an order to transfer fuel - the order is shown
estimate how long a wet/dry jump would take - that's very few known numbers
estimate how long a wet jump would take
estimate how long the fuel tanker is away
no need to come up with exact simulated numbers, just a rough estimate based on available numbers
and then
either wait for the fuel tanker
or cancel the transfer fuel order
If that is too much to be handled - everything has to be calculated - fire a stop order when the fuel tanker catches up and stops to fulfill it's transfer order. That's not elegant but easy and shouldn't cost any hiccups due to too much extra calculations.
If you need a save game to see for yourself, give me a call.

More and more explorers are exploring COMPLETELY EXPLORED asteroids jumping left and right, up an down the map while more and more explorers are exploring Unknown Planets, Moons, and Asteroids in Unknown Starsystems.
I've reached a point where the fun is overwhelmed by frustration
See [1.0.4.9] Survey already surveyed asteroids for more details.

Re: DW2 Beta Update - 1.0.4.9 (How to Access and Change List)
I'm seeing some really frustrating fleet behaviours in 1.0.4.8.
A fleet will be working just fine, all nice and tidy in one area of space, and at some point the AI may decide that an auto-managed fleet needs to be reinforced, ships need to be juggled around or put into different fleets.
I've noticed it a few times now when the AI decides it's time to generate a new fleet from existing ships. Ships will be taken from very, very far away to be put into an active fleet, and the active fleet and new fleet will have ships spread out all over the place. The result of this is that I'm spending literally years waiting for fleets to be in position, then refuel & refit, before they can do anything useful. They might get one mission done before the AI wants to reshuffle everything again and then I have to wait years again for the ships to rally.
It's exacerbated by the individual ships being partially refuelled when told to travel halfway across the galaxy, not stopping to refuel along the way or being refuelled by tankers. I don't know why. I'm not even at war yet so I can't imagine how frustrating this is going to get once things take off.
Is it worth continuing or should I wait for the next patch?
Save Game attached.
Update / Edit: Yes, this is exceptionally silly. Once again a fleet has been auto-reinforced / juggled, some ships haven't received the order to rally, some have, those that have are travelling multiples of their fuel range to refit, they'll be stuck like this for a decade if I'm lucky, and once they've finished refitting they'll still be spread out and have to rally and refuel again, by which time half of them will again want to refit, so I'm just gonna write this off and wait for the next patch.
