If 1.0.5.6 proves to be stable, it could potentially become official as early as next week, otherwise we'll iterate with another beta update to get closer to a build that is worthy of becoming a new official update. There are a lot of major improvements in the 1.0.5.x series with the engine upgrade and a lot of low level fixes, so we're eager to get it out there as official as soon as we are sure that it's ready.
Awesome! Thank you sir for the quick reply and the great community support.

Yay, indies can live on their homeworlds now! One of my biggest pet peeves of the game was AI sniping my indies that I was waiting for tech to make profitable on their homeworlds when the budget was tight early game.

Hi Erik, do you mean that asteroids are removed from the list the moment you sent a builder to that asteroid, or after the mine is built?

Also, I very much appreciate how hard you've been working on this great game, and I greatly appreciate the 1.0.5.6 UI improvements. Thank you!

The list is the "new mining locations".

I might be wrong, but from what I see, all asteroids within range of the mining station are aggregated into the one asteroid where the mining station is being built. Any asteroid in range is services by this mining station and therefore, no longer listed as a possible "new mining location"

Okay, just to be clear on the mechanics:
1. Mining Stations on asteroids mine several nearby asteroids (I am not 100% sure what happens with Mining Stations that are on a planet but cover some asteroids by happenstance).
2. It always worked like that. I can probably find some old pre-beta footage where it was a thing already.
3. When you order a mining station, the "can build Station" check instantly returns false for all surrounding ones. The button to queue a station is disabeled. You can not manually order a construction
4. After a few gameticks, it would even vanish from the list. But that is for some unknown reason gameticks, not UI ticks - so you might have missed that with

They added exactly what they wrote: A extra Filter option for resources.
That is it.
Nothing else was changed here.

Number 3 hasn't been my experience before. If you ordered a mining station to be built on an asteroid, other asteroids wouldn't vanish automatically. That would happen either when the station is finished or when the construction ship is there constructing it (not sure which of the two was the trigger) (which is what you describe in number 4 I think). It was usual to end up with multiple stations on exactly neighbouring asteroids, covering almost the exact same area, if you weren't careful where to place them.

This is why I was asking if the trigger to eliminate an asteroid was changed.

At any rate, the filter is extremely useful.

Updated the first post with the change list for the 1.0.5.8 public beta, available on Steam and GOG today. We're hoping 1.0.5.8 will be stable enough to go official for everyone next week.

UI IMPROVEMENTS
- updated Design List screen to more clearly indicate toggling for some items (underlines for Role Design, Auto Retrofit, Is Active columns)

Nice. I was stumped over how to set a custom design to not automatically retrofit because I thought the entry was just static text and it never occurred to me to click it. This should make it easier for others to figure this out.

The update to the ship design screen -- just the fact that the selection doesn't toggle when you toggle one of the values in a column - is a :100: win!

NOICE!

Sad edit:
I saw what I wanted to see. No such thing exists. Clicking on anything toggles selection as well as the thing itself (e.g. clicking automation switches to manual, AND toggles selection of that line, which is sub-par). C-.

Change in data\GameText.txt line 1330 Role Upgrade to Role Upgrade. See no difference? First, actual one, uses SPACE, second one, see below, uses nbsp aka non-breaking space, ASCII code 255. Also another file that is now saved in UNIX ANSI instead of PC UTF-8. Not sure why you're releasing UNIX files on a PC (Windows) platform like Steam...

In ship behaviour I often see ships not turning to shoot with their front weapons properly, at least on human ships, even if the are set to aggressive. They instead have their side against the opponent just shooting with their side weapons, even if turning their front would engage with more weapons. This happen when they are more or less standing still.

Well done, 1.0.6.0 is a good update. Plays very well.
And the Badges behave as they should have from day one. Now they feel good. On close up, they are closed, far away they are short summarized, hover over them, they expand. Very very well and intuitive. I like it!

I mean it, and with the Rendering Settings to low, it really looks as I have hoped for.

COLONIZATION
- improved loading colonists for new colony targets so that load most suitable race even when is not dominant race at load colony
I'm still seeing colonization loading the dominant race instead of the optimal one for a colonization target. Is anyone else seeing this issue?
Can you add an option on the load right click menu to allow manually specifying a race to load if this can't be fixed?

I do see it choosing minor (less volume) races...

However, it doesn't look at the plentitude of that race before making its decision - so it ends up totally depleting a world - taking every last of that race off...

Whereas it should check that there are least 500M of THAT race before trying to grab them. More if multiple colonizers are trying to grab from the same world.

But it does pull the minors, which is a nice improvement.
