One of the things i really liked to use in my gameplays in DW 1, was the hability of design and build StarBases for different purposes: logistical, logistical with mining, giant monitoring bases or even mega space fortresses in the middle of nothing with GW intercepting just for the fun.

Now, it seems that this capacity of building a "player designed base for fun and immersion" just disappeared... or am i wrong?

Wold it be possible to return this feature to the game? To choose the type of my Starbases, the places where i build it and the components that they would take?

Thanks,
OldSpook.
There is a handful of station models. The Monitoring one is the most free-form one.

But not space ports in deep space or the like.

Any idea if Hive Missiles can't be stopped by point defense? I have a post here under tech support, but I've watched my enemy fire these at me and no (visual) response from the PD systems on any of my ships.

I think that I can answer this myself: I believe this was fixed in a very recent patch/beta patch.

Another q:

I swear original DW had a hotkey that was "Select closest military ship" but I can't find it in the assignments in DW2. Anyone remember this, or is there some binding I'm missing?

Hi all,

I need to ask you about Matrix Games store : I already have all the DW games on GOG but I would like to buy the "Distant Worlds Legacy Bundle" on Matrix store to have physical boxed copy of these absolute beloved games and support Code Force devs in the same time.
But I never buy game on Matrix store before and I don't see anywhere "DX" or "ST" edition icon on the store pages of DWU or DW2 : what I receive if I buy "Legacy Bundle" ? Steam keys only ? Any way to order physical boxed copy ?

I found this answer of Erik Rutins (Feb 11, 2022) where he speak about physical copy : not available anymore ?

Thank you in advance for answers.

I see we now have the early order option at a fixed price which I assume is the DX version and an option to upgrade to the physical version which i assume is the ST version??

Is there no CL or HB version option ? Are there plans for this?
It would be disappointing to go ST version then CL / HB to come out at a later date. Please confirm

There is a physical boxed copy (DX version which is a Box + DVD) but the manual is a PDF. There is no printed manual for this release. It's possible that in the future we may print a manual for DW2. If we do that, we'll also make it available as a physical upgrade option.

I've got a question about retiring discovered ships. I always get the message about "disassemble for advanced tech" so if I think I can get by without the ship, I'll send it to retire... but after waiting an interminable time for the ship to actually be disassembled sometimes I get no tech. In early game I'd get notices that I'd had a breakthrough of some sensor or missile tech even when the ship was only 20% disassembled, but in midgame I'm finding some advanced cruisers and carriers (I don't even have cruisers and half the tech is much more advanced than what I can build or even research sometimes) and I'll seemingly get nothing and the ship just disappears.

Am I missing something and am actually having breakthroughs or does this just not always work?

You dont get tech from disassembling ships (or repairing them) in the way you think. It is not an all or nothing result but small amounts seem to be added to the lowest tiers of assorted tech you have not researched.

Look at the research tree after disassembling a couple of ships and you will see some techs with fractional amounts and you wont have researched these but got them from repairing or disassembling ships.

You get the lower tier tech with a few "bumps" of a tech from disassembling, so excellent early game, but with the higher level tech you need many more "bumps" to gain a tech level in that group. At about tier four tech you hardly notice the increases from disassembling but you do still appear to get these now very tiny "bumps".

Hello,

Two questions:
. Is it possible to build space probes in the game? Something like Voyager 2 to study planets during pre warp era. Or later, some deep space probes to monitor signals coming from outer space.

. Is it possible to play pirates faction like in DW:U?

I am still playing DW:U but I am starting to look at DW2.

@ncc1701e

There are no space probes in the traditional sense. You'll likely advance through the pre-warp phase quickly enough that you'll have warp-capable exploration ships loooooong before a Voyager-type probe reached the nearest star (Voyager's interstellar ETA is something like 80,000 years). There are random narrative events such as finding an abandoned ship or ruin that contain navigational data about surrounding stars, and you occasionally find these in your home system. I'd be very surprised if you felt like the current system is lacking in any meaningful way.

In the later game, you have access to monitoring stations, which is how you "listen to deep space". These work quite well (and in fact just got a nice buff with the latest update).

No pirate empires YET. It has been regularly mentioned to be in the eventual pipeline, provided that the game continues to perform well enough financially to warrant further expansion. We don't know when, but we do know that it is intended to bring playable pirate empires into DW2 at some future point.

DWU is still a great experience, but DW2 is already quite robust and has become my preferred way to play it. One day, DW2 will have a "universe" of content too, but for now, we're still exploring the galaxy. Good times.

Hi all,
got the DLC, played a game and had Boskara as immediate neighbors.
They got freakin' 36% to over 50% growth rate on their planets.
Heck I am just bombarding one of their planets and its still growing by 33%.
Are these numbers off, or plausible? I am slightly puzzled, and can't remember this extreme from my last games played prior to the dlc.
Thanks in advance for an answer!
Regards!

Those numbers do sound excessive to me.
Could you report this as a bug, with savegames over in this thread?

You might have to put the savegame in a .zip file, so they fit.

Re: How to do you complete an unfinished mining station?

Post by PaidLeber »

In prewarp start. I have a mining station that is 29% done. There are no contruction ships close to it. I click on an idle contruction ship in the menu then hold right-click but no menu to finish contructing the station. I also went to the resources -> Mining Locations. The station icon is red but there is no icon on the right to click on to finish. In the bottom left menu, the only option is to scuttle the station!

I'm an old DW:U player and when you play manually, there would be a tool looking icon when you hover over the incomplete station if you have a contruction ship selected. In automatic, it would complete the station with the next available construction ship.

How to do you complete an unfinished mining station? I hope I didn't pick up this game too early.

UPDATE: Weird. The "Under Contruction" percentage is increasing, but there are no contruction ships in the vicinity. If it is retrofitting, shouldn't it say retrofitting to x design?!?!

Did you look for all your construction ships? Perhaps one is hidden under the station.

The mining station was retrofitting to the next blueprint but said "Under Construction" not "Retrofitting to X" so was confused.

Stations should blow up if their construction ship is removed mid building.
But can Upgrade themselves without needing any assistance (or resource deliveries).

Derelic Ships do stay around if their construction ship was pushed away and whoever finishes the repair, get's the ship.

I have set area weapon priority to "Do not use" in the policy settings but the game insists on putting area weapons on defensive bases anyway. Is there any way to prevent area weapons being used on stations with automatic ship design on?
