Where to find opponents?

Post by Octavian »

Hi there,

I am new to the game.. well even haven´t bought it.
But from reading the very well and clear written manual I think this game might be exactly my cup of tea.
So many clever and interesting design decisions here (fluid ZOC, the supply rules, air warfare rules, etc. very very nice)
The only thing holding me back from buying it, actually is, that I feel that I will be frustrated with the AI (well, a common grief of us grognards, I know) which is said to be of little challenge. So I was looking around for MP-opportunities and found only one forum here with it´s last challenge put online somewhere last year. So, am I looking at the wrong places or is this game litteraly dead at the moment?

You are missing out on the fun. WEGOWW2 is neither literally nor figuratively dead. We've sold copies of Desert War 1940-42 and Stalingrad every month of the year since these games were published. We are currently working on two of three new games that will define the WEGOWW2: Monty's Front Trilogy (OVERLORD, MARKET-GARDEN, and The Cinderella Army...[Oh Canada...]). The Monty's Front AI has already received several significant upgrades. Desert War and Stalingrad will eventually be upgraded to the Monty's Front standards--GRATIS.

Let me know when you are ready to play a Stalingrad scenario and I will accept your PBEM challenge.

Onwards!

Hi bc games,

thanks for your quick reply and your offer to accept a challenge! That is really nice and
I am really tempted to jump into this and probably will, but am still struggling a bit.
You say the gaming community for the WEGO series is there and alive, which I do not doubt.
But is there any other than yourself offering challenges?
And if not: do you have any idea, why MP is dead? From what I have seen from the game (f.e. the videos of Hobbygeneral which is easiest for me since I am German, too) it should really deserve some attention, but if you are really the only one interested in MP.. that´s tough.
Maybe I am wrong and there are some forums out there. If so, please point me to them.
Otherwise I still might jump into it, buy it and play around a little with the AI before I ask you again for a PvP, if that´s fine with you.
Best regards
Michael

Hey Michael,

I’ll let others say their peace. Me? I’ve accepted challenges and issued challenges and had fun every time…and learned how to play better in the process. You’re not going to find a multitude of PBEMrs here. In fact, when things are going good? You can count them all on one hand. All good people everytime.

I can’t help you find a better alternative cuz I’ve been totally into this game system for 11(?) years now. I try to keep up with other designs and designers; a month doesn’t go by where I don’t by a new computer or board wargame. But…I only like playing and designing WEGO.

Thanks for considering our games. There’s funner stuff out there if you look for it.
