Scenario Editor Defence LOS

Post by seanny »

Could a defence construction be added that blocks line of sight?

That way I could have more variation in making scenarios.
I want shorter lines of sight to make AFV and Gun use more interesting and varied.
The unlimited range of Guns (AFV and AT) makes the non urban maps lacking in tactical choices.

I have tested the existing defence constructions and none of them block line of sight.

I had another idea that might achieve my aim of shorter lines of sight (LOS).

Maybe MAXIMUM VISIBILITY could be introduced into the Scenario Editor.
That way I could pick say 8,12,16 hexes max visibility and this would work great for my own scenarios.
It would solve problem of AFV fire being too long by simulating LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS ,like dawn and dusk -where I assume lots of battles took place.

Hi seanny,

Good ideas. We've kicked around the idea of variable visibility distances. From an implementation point of view, it's not simple. I'll add these to our ideas list and Lance and I will discuss.

Thank you for the consideration.
It really would be great if you could implement such a variable viewing distance.

I have a new query.
Sort of related.
I have modified some .xml files myself to change some unit attributes.
And found this worked and was fun to do.
Would it be possible for me to introduce a ranged statistic in the armour.xml ?(eg britisharmor.xml)
I noticed in the support weapons there is a few lines-
<apfp value ="1"/>
<atfp value ="A"/>
<range value ="6"/>
Can I add
<range value ="16"/>
or similar for example to an AFV statistics?
The AFV xml has no such line ,but could I add it for my Mod and what would be the syntax(words ) used to implement the range change.
Or is this not possible?
