Friendly fire , British tanks destroying own troops?

Hi

Playing Counterattack at Villers le Sec again as the German side against the British AI. In the British move phase a British Sherman moved into the same wooded hex as a German Pz-IVD. In the following German defensive fire phase the German Pz-IVD could not fire at the British Sherman in the same hex as itself also a German Panzershreck in range could not fire at the British Sherman in the same hex as the German Pz-IVD.
In the German move phase I moved the German Pz-IVD out of the hex shared with Sherman. The British tank did not attempt opportunity fire when I moved the Pz-IVD out of the shared hex.
In the following British defensive fire two other British Shermans opened fire on the Sherman that had shared the hex with the German tank and destroyed the British Sherman.
