Finding units on the Map / FindOrg Troubles

Post by AbeMuc »

A quick question about FindOrg in the Menu bar. It is nice to have an overall OOB, but the use is somehow limited. It seems you can manually search a unit but you can`t click on it to have the map jump to the location?

Is this correct or intended or am I missing something? I really want to dig into the Week Long Scenarios. But trying to find a unit on the map is very time consuming and frustrating. Escpecially as by clicking on a hex you get no idea which units are in the hex as there are no unit names in the unit viewer panel on the right. So you have to click on every single unit, hit F2 to reveal the units name (eg. 1st Platoon/A/.....)

And please don't get we wrong. The game is a really good wargame but I for my taste would like to play more and not wasting so much time trying to find a unit...

I'll echo your frustration. I'm happy with the game overall so far, but it is extremely frustrating and inefficient to have to hit F2 on a unit to find the unit org details, especially in larger scenarios. It would be nice to see the plt/co/bn instead of the type when you click on the unit.

I agree, probably the most frustrating part of an otherwise excellent game.

We are giving thought to how we might improve this.

Excellent! I certainly appreciate that you're looking into it (and have no idea what the level of effort such a change would be).

I also picked up Middle East in the bundle sale, and just installed it. It looks like it will be a lot of fun as well.

In the forthcoming v1.01: In the Organization Dialog, if you select a platoon and it is on map, it will select that unit and recenter the map display on its map hex.

This will find HQs also, and highlight all units at that org level, per the usual.

Much appreciated! Thank you!

It would also be great if units that are currently being transported/loaded showed up.

I am in the week long binh Long scn., yes I agree, the best way forward right now is what you're doing, to highlight the unit, hit F2 to get the units name and larger parent org., then hit Z to highlight its co. and bn on the map, and move them accordingly, tough yes in a scn. with this many units but......
