CSVN Beta 1.31 Launch and Game Issues

Post by mtmoczynski »

Greetings.

I Downloaded the latest CSVN Beta with no issues or errors reported. Installed Beta, again no reported issues or errors. Upon launching the game using the executable (not the Launcher) it takes a very long time for the game to load. (Much longer than CSME.) Upon selecting a hex with a unit in it, no Unit Info Box is displayed. Also, scrolling the map simply stacks hexes. Given that, I followed instructions similar to the Beta for CSME. I uninstalled CSVN and used the Installer downloaded from the "My Page". Installation proceeded as I expected until I got to the screen where it asks to install .NET. I replied "yes" but the installer responded that I had a later version of .Net already installed and aborted installation of .Net. There was no option by the Installer to proceed if I wanted to. Upon completion of the balance of the installation process, I launched the game with the same results noted above. I've attached the three log files (.zip attachment). Note that prior to the application of this latest Beta, the game ran fine (I do not recall the version installed but I typically keep my games up to date.) Please note that the CSME Beta update is operational. I enjoyed the game when I was able to play. Hopefully you can shed some light on the issue and get me up and running again. Logs attached.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, looking at the LOG files, it looks like the updates haven't taken to your installation, it still says 1.00.

Maybe uninstall and try again?

Jason,
I did not apply the 1.31 update since the 1.00 version was giving me the same problems - no unit info when clicking a hex and stacking of here's when scrolling the map. I can apply the update if you think that will make a difference.

Thanks.

Should have read "hexes".

Depending on your system, I think it might.

I'd recommend installing it in the default location, try that first.

Jason,
I was remiss in my first post for not thanking you for your continued support of CSVN and CSME. You passion for these titles shows in your attention to detail, promptness in addressing questions/issues, continuing videos (which I watch), and efforts to advance these games.

I installed the 1.31 update but there was no joy. The update did install a "redist" folder containing 4.7.2 of dot Net Framework. I generally loathe installing an application in program directories due to Windows security issues. But I gave it a whirl and the game ran successfully.

My machine has a SSD for the OS and a number of "real-time" applications and an HDD where I typically install all my applications, music, etc. So, the game ran on the SSD. I then uninstalled the game again and re-installed it in the "my apps" folder on the SSD. Game runs. Loaded multiple scenarios and all seems OK. So maybe the issue was trying to run the game on a HDD versus a SSD.

Regardless, thanks the support and looking forward to progress on these games.

Oh that's interesting, thank you for letting me know!

And thank you!! I really appreciate your support, interest and watching the videos! It really does help with the motivation to continue!

I really do love this game. It's been a passion since the first release back in 1998.

Some encoding errors in scenario text - first letters of second sentance, hlighlighted in the screenshot.

My system is localized to Polish language although that should not be a problem.

Right you are. Scenario designer David Galster wanted to have this little additional touch of having French and Vietnamese anecdotes in his scenarios. Clearly, something gone wrong here with file UTF settings. To be fixed for next update.

Looking at this, there were issues with accented 'e's in three other mission briefing as well. Fixed, and available in next update. Thank you, we want to catch the smallest of the bug breed as well :)
