4k Scaling Issues in Betas

Post by Ramius »

I used Jason Petho's advice in this thread https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 8&t=378761 previously which worked well on my 4k screen at 3840 x 2160. However, I have installed the v2.00 public beta for Vietnam and it no longer works (same for the Middle East v3.00 public beta).

I have tried changing the Windows 11 scaling settings to the suggested System Enhanced etc. for both the desktop shortcut, and for the actual executable - neither makes any difference no matter what I change them to - System, System Enhanced, Application - all launch the game exactly the same - i.e. very small fonts, buttons and graphics. I have tried this on two different 4k systems, a desktop and laptop, both Nvidia.

Any help appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your trouble. There are so many different systems out there, but at the end I believe we have been able to solve most if not quite all issues reported. Here's hoping.

Have you tried adjusting your Display settings?

Right click at your desktop:
  • Display Settings -> Scale
  • Display Settings -> Display Resolution
I have a 3440 x 1440 gaming wide screen, with this one I can run at native display resolution and at 100% Scale, ie. no scaling.

However with my teeny tiny traveling laptop, Asus Zen 13" with a superb 4K OLED display, I need to revert to HD settings and I don't recall exactly but likely to adjust Scale as well.

Would this help you? Do let us know if it did, or did not. Good luck!

Hi Crossroads,

The Display Scaling in Windows is set to 150% by default - changing this up to 175% or more makes all my system fonts larger, but does not affect the game fonts at all - everything remains tiny.

Changing the desktop resolution down to say 1920 x 1080 makes the game fonts readable (but fuzzy) but then the graphics look terrible (pixelated) and everything else on my screen (manuals, the menu etc.) is so large as to be unusable.

This did work well before the betas (changing the scaling on the shortcut) so I'm wondering what changed?

Thanks

None of the game elements have been changed, 2.00.00 is with the same .NET libraries as the latest 1.31 release. C++ redistributables are newer, gone are the old 2008 ones. But I would not think that is the reason.

I have noticed some randomness with Scaling, for instance, sometimes the Unit list element or Toolbars scale properly, sometimes they remain small.

This is unfortunately outside my expertise. Anyone else experimented something like this?

I would suggest opening a ticket with Matrix Support, they are very good with HW and OS issues.

As another guess, would a resolution between 4K and HD work better? Perhaps try experimenting with a few?

Confirmed. I'm on a 100" screen with a 4K projector. Just installed the new beta 2.0 on it (3840x2160).
Fonts are way to small. I'm on 300%. Not sure what's changed. .Net version?
I've tried compatibility mode to no effect. I will not try swapping font sizes just for the game. The 1.31 version worked good.

Did you try to go to to each of the EXE's

Right click - Properties - Compatibility

Click on Change High DPI Settings

Check ON Override high DPI scaling behavior.

Scaling performed by APPLICATION

Have you tried iother resolutions to see if they work better. I am sorry to hear about your troubles.

As for fonts, they seem to be hard coded as Arial in many places. It is my wish-list item to have the game on windows system fonts for the next rellease. Unit list revision, too.

Edit Different .Net version from 1.31, true. 1.31 was stillwith 2008 redistributables and whatever .Net of the time. This is with 4.7.2. There's quite a ffew 4K players out there, you are not alone. I haven't found a common nominator with those whom this works for and whom not.

I did try 1920x1080 with recommended scaling (125% for me) and it works fine.
I also tried rolling back or installing older C++ redistributables but no change.

So you are able to play it this way at least? I am aware of the problem areas, unit list in particular. Hopefully they will be gone by next Update.
