Terrain Modding Question

Post by Rake »

Why were the edges of the base terrain graphics removed? I presume it has to do with the way slopes are handled now, but I don't see where it matters in game.

The pic below shows the VN terrain graphic copied over onto the ME base, with some minor contrast and sharpening added. I've only done this with one file (SEAsiaTerrain0D), but I thought I'd ask before going through all of the files and finding out I'd missed something.

I was actually hoping that this might improve the "blending" of the slopes in game, but I don't see any difference...Yet

Thanks in advance... Rake

And another question... which file in the Maps folder is the jungle graphic? I'd like to add some contrast and sharpening to make it stand out from the background a bit more. I've done this to all of the *trees0D" graphics (daytime only), but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

All the graphics you need to edit are in the GRAPHICS - MAPS - 3D folder.

You'll want to do a search for *trees*.bmp and edit them all accordingly.

Why were the edges of the base terrain graphics removed?
I don't believe they were removed, I believe they are separate files now. If you do a search in the above folder for *edges*.bmp, you will see the edges files.

Okay, maybe I just hadn't given the trees in the *trees0D*bmp's enough of a boost to make it noticeable in game. I searched just as you recommended, and applied the contrast and sharpening to all of those file (3D Zoom-In level only).

Thanks, I'll look for those too

I finally figured out why they weren't showing up from my modded files in JSGME... my folder tree was messed up. Once that was fixed, VOILA!!!

Once I'm at the point where I think they're ready, I will most certainly do that. Right now, most of the changes are not.

You'll see a bit of one of the changes in the pic in my next post... just some changes to the contrast in the villages. The palm trees still have a bit of neon green along the "veins", but they looked like they belonged in a Margaritaville bar before the last change
