Locking HQ Support Level

Post by Zemke »

Running 1.02.01 Beta, cannot seem to find how to set HQs to "locked".

You have to click on the actual number to switch it to locked (see image). Or you can do it from Commander's Report by setting support level to -1.

It can also be locked or unlocked in the game options screen.

That doesn't seem to always work for me. If I do that, it seems to lock the SU number on the starting-numbers. So, if you had 4 SUs on an HQ and you removed those SU, the lock in the game options keeps the number at 4. And thus there are SUs automatically being moved towards that HQ if it doesn't have 4 SUs.

It is best is to go to the commander screen and put everything on -1. Then all SUs will always stay where you put them manually.

Yogol I have never done that and never experienced the AI moving SU's after I locked them at start. Now I know how to fix it if AI gets sneaky.[&o]

I lock them but only after a couple of turns with all of the lower HQs set to 0 and top HQ set to 9 which flushes them all out of the lower HQ's.
As far as i know there is not a way to bulk assign/reassign them from the commanders report which would be useful.

If you have SU's assigned to Division/Regiments those units wont filter up to higher HQ's by the way.

You will need to "pray" harder for the builk assign/reassign, that has been around for a very long time as an ask.

Question. Suppose I do set the OKH at 9 and everything else at zero on turn 1 and once all SU's move to OKH (I'm not sure how many turns that takes), could I then unlock and designate a certain number of SUs and SU types per corps and let the computer assign them. I realize this is not the best way but just wondering if the computer would try to redistribute from OKH on down. Another question. There are entire corps that start with no SUs and there are corps that come on the map later on as reserves with no SUs. If I don't lock, with the computer assign any excess SUs to these units? I don't seem to recall that ever happening but I could be wrong.

If you set a lower command to support level > 0 - the command levels between it and the high command cannot be locked - they need to be set to zero for the support to pass through to the lower level.
I know with the soviets that some new armies appear that have support set to 3 and they end up accumulating a bunch of support units (as i have all the rest set to zero or locked).
