AD Naval Interdiction Missions

Post by HermanGraf »

Hello Again,

Hope i am not flooding the forum but I try to only ask questions that I cannot find in the forum search or are not clear in the manual.

I am trying to isolate Svestapool. I have recruited the Fleiger See Air Group to do this supplemented with some Ju88s that have had their bomb loadout refitted with LMA mines. I checked and rechecked the AD assignments and both of those airgroups are confirmed to carry out those missions. Problem is now the Flieger See group does not participate in the interdiction at all. It is only the JU88 group. This has happened in other cases where air groups do not even bother participating even when they are in range, not fatigued, and have ample planes and pilots. I understand that its possible for some units to not particpate based on the range, detection level, pilot skill, etc.. But for NONE in a particular group to particpate seems broken. Assist?

You need to post a pic of the air directive as you have set it up for the air phase. Make sure that Show Air Groups and No Fly Info are selected.

Weather. Set your planes to fly in all weather instead of better than poor and it will be fine.

You might find that isolating Sevastopol from naval supply isn't enough: The soviets will fly in air supply and often some will get through. Also, it might have been the case that Sevastopol was chock full of freight and supplies when you cut it off so it will last a long time - even with 9 divisions in its city fort. Let me know how it turns out.

This doesn't matter in the game. Most important thing to do is get naval isolation and prevent air supply from getting 500t in. It will fall after one deliberate attack once those conditions are met.

The directive still needs more work. You should fly all seven days and eat any additional ops losses. You need fighter coverage with this. You should set requested aircraft at 180-200. You would also benefit from doing area zero and targeting the immediate water hexes around Sevastopol, otherwise the interdiction levels may become diluted by the additional hexes you are covering. I wouldn't hesitate to commit almost all bombers in LW4 to the task. That is basically what the Germans did in the Spring of 1942 at Sevastopol.

Appreciate the replies, did not even think about the weather.

I worked around it by assigning a few JU88s to the Fuhrer Ostsee (it worked with the current AD). I am bombing the port to Oblivion with most of the Heinkels so I should get them isolated by T23 (hopefully). Reason I did such a large targeting area was to keep the sea lane open for the recently captured port just north, I am refitting units there in prep for the assault.

As for preventing the air supply, I understand the importance of that now. Learned the hard way with having a huge pocket in the beginning of September around Chernigov. I never prevented the air supply, and those units were holding out until Nov 16th. It completely haulted my advance on Kurk/Kharkov. Won't let that happen in Svestapol.

M60, I'll def start using that change in my AD in future.
