Game locks up and later tries to enter gets login error 6

My friend and I have been playing War in the East 2 for some years now. Periodically, he will have trouble saving the game on his end. After this I cannot load the game because everything just locks up when trying to load it. Then when I go back later I get login error 6. Help please!

Is this in a server game? If it is, and you let me know the player user names and the campaign/scenario name and approximate turn number, I can revert to the prior save, which should allow you to continue (but you'll have to replay the turn). Does he have difficulties with his internet connection?
