Unraveling Disruptions

Post by DeletedUser44 »

Rather than histrionics, let's look at some real data associated with disruptions.

This is an attempt to provide some.

Background
----------
German Deliberate Assault vs Kiev (isolated 1 turn)

Data ( https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApomLrihV-7hgcgDjdP ... g?e=JPW2dl )
----
Combat Log (.csv file)

WiTE2_Kiev_Ground_Combat_1.jpg
WiTE2_Kiev_Ground_Combat_2.jpg
WiTE2_Kiev_Ground_Losses.jpg

Overview
--------
I wish I could just grab and share the full details of the combat, but will have to make do with the log and pictures of CRV tabs.

There is stuff that is scrolled off the screen that I will try to characterize here:
- 7 German Infantry Divisions
- 10 Artillery Battalions (we got a bunch of artillery, yes?)
- 2 Pioneer Battalions

General Info
------------
- Over 10-to-1 in terms of combat elements
- A bunch of Artillery
- Air Support... not too shabby

Final Outcome
-------------
Somewhat of a letdown. Based on depictions, I expected to punch a hole through the space-time continuum. Or at the least, my Artillery should have vaporized the meager 141st Rifle Division without being able to fire a shot.

But no, somehow they managed to disrupt 10 times the number of attacking elements than what they suffered themselves. (about 6 times if you include the air disruptions)

If you remove the losses associated with the retreat (and surrender), and consider the 10-to-1 ratio (attacker-to-defender) and defender has been isolated a turn, the Soviet losses are trivial.

-------------
To be fair, this may not be typical as it involves assaulting a lightly-fortified city. I will try to collect some additional battle-data later.

You have completely destroyed a division. No more than 120 people remained in it.
Your losses still depend on the fact that in this case you are attacking the city, moreover, the city is prepared for defense. I don't see any problems here with the logic of what happened.

But the Soviet-German front does not even consist of 2% of urban areas. Can this example be considered fundamental from a game point of view? As a rule, battles in cities do not take place, unless there is no way to occupy the city in a different way. In the city, the combat system generally works better and raises fewer questions.
In addition, Kiev is a warehouse from the beginning of the game, which does not affect the isolation status of the unit.

Urban protects somewhat from artillery, do something similar on heavy forest, swamps or god forbid clear. also soviets actually do normally shoot back a tiny bit if they have ammo since mortars get to fire during the bombardment phase so before artillery can disrupt everything(it doesn't actually disrupt everything just most things)
