German Ops losses or lack thereof

Post by chaos45 »

So in my current game just saw the Germans flew 600+ air superiority missions and not a single ops loss......a tad unrealistic and basically BS.

I can understand if the German player wants to fly his wings off his planes doing air superiority missions but should be at least some cost to this and historically those WW2 airplanes didnt hold up well to lots of use.....one of the top german aces died to a ops loss basically.

Should probably amp up German ops losses slightly so they take at least some fighter losses from hundreds of Air superiority flights.

Generally if AS is from the home airbase then there are zero ops losses.
IMO this works, under older patches there were ops losses for all AS. The problem is that for many turns over much of the front Axis would be taking ops losses and the VVS would not be flying, but Axis would need to keep up the air cover in case they did. Clearly this is unhistorical, the Soviets were always flying all the time and so there was a continuous air battle ongoing and Axis were taking ops losses. But in the game the VVS is only going to be used when the player wants it to.
So I would say best to stay as it is, and only have ops losses where there is some kind of combat involved.

German players can rely on auto intercept from the airfields instead if they dont want to risk ops losses by flying Air Superiority missions far from the homeairfields.

Is a give and take...use precious supply to build more forward airfields if you dont want to risk the ops losses from air superiority.

German have all the cake in 1941 they need at least some drawbacks esp since soviets only barely replace what any decent German player can kill every turn----

T5- Soviet replacements per week already down to 104k, German losses inflicted 96-97k....and several divisions in pockets so a net kill much higher than weekly replacement rates.

Keeping up an average 100k Soviet losses per week until mud as Germany really isnt that hard to do in the current version of the game.

Auto intercept is not sufficient to stop Soviet GA. Without AS the Soviets can wreck the Axis ground offensive by heavy bombing. To protect against this Axis have to set up a network of AS to cover the front line, flying from their home airfields.
However if AS is set up from a hex not the home airfield then there are ops losses. I don't think Axis can sustain this for long, maybe some if TBs are open but I have not played that.
