map projection

Post by tonyhnz »

I was just wondering what the new projection was used for the map.

There is always trade off between spots at different latitudes and it seems to not have too many obvious distortions.

I also noticed that Pripyat marshes had some lanes though it versus one large swamp like in WITE 1.

Jason Petho decided on the projection when he designed the WitW map back in 2011. Not sure what he used.
All understanding comes after the fact.

The map hexes are put on a map with a choosen long. and lat.net.
Mercator projections are avoided because of the area errors.
The maps that are most alike are the german and soviet maps in scale 1:2,5M.
What differs a bit is the choosen straight upwards longitude line.
That affects the view of the map but doesnt mean a real distorsion.
In west europe maps long. 10 was mostly used.
In east europe maps long. 30.
In all europe maps long. 20.
The choice here is long. 10.
Soviet maps in scale 1:2,5M had mostly long.31 as a divider.
I cant see any obvious distortions in WitE-2 in relation to long. and lat..
In WitE-1 south-east europe was a bit distorted.
