Finland MOD V4.0

This is my Finland MOD. It adds the Finland and Northern Theatre regions to the map but realistically is only for Head-to-Head games as the AI does not cope well with the vagaries of the Finnish theatre - low counter density, difficulty of supply etc. However, it copes better as the Sov AI and is playable if you want to give it a go.

The MOD adds a series of new events based on the Finns limited war aims and the German plans for Operation Silver Fox (and its subordinates). Similarly I have added Murmansk and Kandalaska as VP Cities. I have also added a few other VP Cities (1VP each) for the key objectives to reflect the fact you no longer get the VP and AP Theatre box adjustments. I have made a few other minor changes e.g. Added 3 Finnish AOGs to help control the Finnish Airforce - the Finns actually organised through 5 Regts, so I added 3.

I had to almost completely rewrite the MOD to reflect the new OOB but the MOD is now fully working on 1.04.01 so please enjoy the MOD and let me have your feedback.

V3.4 Updated to match developer changes from 1.02.41-1.02.51.
V4.0 Updated to match latest OOB and version 1.04.01 of the game.

There are a few limitations that I am already aware of as follows:
  • 1. As there doesn't appear to be any way to directly adjust Lend-Lease, I have had to approximate the impact on the Northern Lend-Lease from capturing Murmansk or cutting the Murmansk-Leningrad railway as follows: Capturing Murmansk causes all Lend-Lease North factories to take a 1 time 100% damage, Cutting the rail line at Kandalaska causes 50% damage and cutting it below that causes 25% damage. The events explain my reasoning. The events are linked, so capturing Murmansk deactivates the others etc.
  • 2. I can't get Rail Repair units for the Finns to work - so I have added 3 German R.A.G. detachments and attached them to the Finnish Army HQs. This gives a very slow railway repair capability and will work for now.
  • 3. In version 1.02.19 Beta, there was a bug in that capturing Kandalaska automatically capture Murmansk and turns the Murmansk region to Axis control. This is fixed in 1.02.20 and beyond.
  • 4. The fact the editor feature to update the map is currently disabled means that I whilst I have added features in the scenario editor, they don't appear in an actual game. e.g. Added the towns such as Salla, Litsa and Titovka that were key battlegrounds during Op Silver Fox. Similarly the map is missing some key roads and railways which I have added to my bug report.
How to Access the MOD:

You can access the mod by downloading the zipped file, unzipping it and copying the scen and events files to your own Scen and Events folders. The events folder is required because I added some additional photos to my events from Sa-Kuva, the Finnish war archive and have referenced them as required.

Hi!
How come that finnish units are in soviet area west Wiborg
and Hanko-Hangö is finnish. In that hex were about 20 000 soviet soldiers.
Or have I missed something?

Those are the 1941 borders following the Winter War between the Soviets and Finland. There was a
large battle for Hanko. Please see this link for details:

I guess the scenario starts june 41. Therefore I dont understand the answer..
You dont use the -41 borders

Now I'm confused - do you not see the 8th Hanko Rifle Bde in Hanko?

As for the 4 hexes near Vyborg. These are hardcoded as being under Axis control in the game and based on the books I read do appear to be where the Finnish units shown were based historically. i.e. over the actual 'border' as drawn on the map.

Hi!
You use the borders of the first original WitE-2 map.
Then the map changed to be a bit more accurate. See the arrows.
See a real map. Look at the distance to the border from Wiborg and the land areas west of the bay up to the town.
Load generic data. Then you see that where you have put finnish units are belonging to Soviet.
Sorry I didnt see the unit in Hangö. I just looked at it was recognised as finnish territory.
My remarks are minor and I must say that its great that you work with a finnish scenario

Thank you very much for this. I think I need to wait until the editor is fixed to actually change control of the hexes, but (like Hanko) putting Soviet units in the hexes effectively does this anyway. Hopefully this is now fixed and attached:

Could you re-updated your mod with actual version 1.02.25beta please?
I try it and think is it good mod. It helps me to conquest Lenigrad, gain more division from Findland (if you conquest Murmansk, another cities) and more aircraft support on the Nort. It is pitty that, the Findland scenario wasnt part of main campaign in the basic part of game. In the WITE was part of Findland land - it was more realistic and more interesting gameplay. Thank you for your mod.

Nice mod. Also have to agree that part of the enjoyment I got out of WitE1 was playing and battling through Karelia and down the Isthmus. Still I understand (kind of) why this AO was excluded in WitE2.
Well, anyways...looks like we can attempt to take Kandalaska and Murmansk with this. 🙂

Thanks for your comments. Work has been crazy the last few weeks but I aim to post an updated version of the Finland MOD later this weekend. This fixes the issue of Hanko showing as Soviet, balances the supply situation and provides the Soviet units some extra CPP / TOE so that results more closely align with the Soviet historical ability to defend around Murmansk.

Update 3.2 - Updated Road / Terrain Network in Finland and around Murmansk. Tweaked Soviet Air Groups and Renamed to SAD rather than Mixed Air Groups. 5 SAD reassigned to 23 Army (Leningrad) rather than Northern Front.
