IMO The Germans taking always Leningrad is historically accurate - in real life AGN made a right mess of the Baltics and still cut Leningrad off by land. An extra corps and Leningrad can't hold without as you say risking Moscow.

Talking of which, the Battle for Moscow is shaping up nicely. If you can cut the railway lines that should finish the Soviets, though its incredible how long Moscow can hold out after being surrounded. I suspect we will see a 1943 relief effort by the Red Army, or what is left of it.

yes its the plan is max pressure on moscow and its pulled in almost all real available soviet forces as you can see how weak he is everywhere else.....the bad is most the soviet army is there so its a slow slog against constant lvl 2/3 forts each turn....the 450k extra manpower he just got in september will help him bolster his weakening defense lines at moscow for sure.

In September 1st week i encircled 3 strong soviet divisions norther of moscow so waiting to see if he can break them out--i doubt it as his lines on the north end have been taking some heavy attrition.

Also im still attacking almost all across the line so he really isnt getting much of a break from losses until mud....a pretty constant about 100k soviet losses per week or more basically all of 1942. its why his OOB is still at 5M and even dipped below on some turns. With all the south now slowly being lost he is losing more and more population as well so in 1943 will take him awhile to rebuild steam for a counteroffensive i think.

If I surround moscow it would be game over.....I dont think that will happen unless he is much weaker than i anticipate...as i said above he just got 450k free replacements and mud is getting close so he is probably safe as he has enough men to keep putting stacks in front of my attacks.

Swapped computers so lost the September pics but here is 1st week of October 1942.

Overall not sure Germany will really gain much more---the massive force requirement increase for the western front drained alot of divisions from the eastern front in Fall 1942---trying to keep honest with the TBs so dont keep them understrength.

Around moscow continued pressure---Supplies really are the main constraint even with really good rail connections and tons of depots the throughput on supplies isnt near enough to keep up with combat use and loss replacement which is dragging down the Germans offensive capabilities. Massive air resupply pulling everything i can forward is the only thing currently keep momentum.

I guess I could try to use the pump method but seems abit cheese so just trying to get by with using the system i think as intended.

South of moscow not much is going on a couple back and forth attacks....hes started to apply some pressure to the hungarians who are wothless at holding ground even sitting around for months digging in lol.

The drive on Baku and to clear all of southern Soviet Union is making progress but for some reason the depots past Mkachkala dont get any supply so what little bit of supply is arriving is being trucked from there to the frontline like 20 hexes to the SE....not sure why the rail line isnt working but its not....I have depots and its all repaired but no supplies go past that point.

The part of the southern advance is being sustained by port supply then flown forward by air transport and i did sail in a rail unit to start building the rail network from the port forward.

Overall Soviet OOB is improving and the German OOB has dropped alot mainly due to a ton of divisions being pulled to the western front and lack of replacements arriving at the frontlines. The mud period should give the German offensive units a chance to recover and refit.

The tide hasnt turned but the German ability to conduct offensives is about done.....lack of units to provide any real depth to defenses and lack of follow on units to really push forward an offensive....as well around moscow its hammer lvl 2/3 forts over and over each turn which the Soviets dont usually take heavy losses from.

If losses continue at this pace should hit close to historical losses for the soviets i think.

Anyway current pics.

Key numbers for OCT 1942...

Next update will take awhile we have only been getting about 1-2 turns done a week lately and are currently in OCT 1942.

M60 wanted an update though and it has been awhile as well mud wont allow either side to do much on the offensive side aside from some local ones where select hexes are only light mud.

You can really see the drain of the higher western front requirements as the German OOB has dropped several hundred K over the Fall as I pulled divisions out and sent them west.

Now all the luftwaffe divisions finally coming in will allow me to start doing some swaps but for a critical couple months in 1942 it basically removed an entire German army from the field in the east.

I understand your situation and I am certain your opponent will fight to hold Moscow but you seem so close, one last push maybe wait till winter and then cut the rail lines, your screenshot shows you are just 10 miles from a major rail line in the south.
Good luck to both, looking forward to see the outcome.

Situation 1st week of November 1942- Mud has brought actions to close across most the front for both sides aside from limited ops where its light mud.

The main change to frontlines is Astrakhan (sp) is retaken by the soviets from the Italians

The German panzer army to the SE of Moscow relocates and refits almost directly to the SE of Moscow to try and move in a close pincer move due to supplies/terrain/resistance being abit to strong further east.

Just for ease of comparison OOB/losses as of 1st week of December 1942

One thing of note is the Germans are finally running out of manpower....building up all the LW field divisions plus some other units that arrived empty has gradually drained down the German manpower pool the last month or so....still 70k+ manpower in the pool but its for sure been dropping each turn.

Good news is Germany gets a bump to manpower in 1943 pretty sure lol and with all the soviet manpower points still in german hands for basically all of 1942 it will take the Soviets a long time to regenerate forces in 1943 even if I am forces to the defensive.

1st Week of December key hex control around moscow--no units as we are on these turns now.

Has been a month of dogged fighting in an arc from SW to SE of Moscow that resulted in alot of ground gained by German forces over november...the Soviets are now defending the very outskirts of the city.

News Flash..........

As a 1943 New Years gift to the Fuhrer the hard fighting forces of Army Center have completely encircled Moscow

Initial reports indicate heavy fight all around the outskirts of the north side of Moscow and Soviet news media has reported a glorious counterattack by heroic forces of the soviet union re-uniting with the defenders of Moscow.

New reports from Berlin continue to report that Moscow is encircled and has no hope of salvation and German forces will soon be in the Kremlin.

Something like that, except Axis only own 1 hex along the north side of moscow....waiting for next turn now to see if he can open it again or not and to see if he doesnt can the German infantry forces make an attempt to take one of the 3 hexes this next turn.

The initial turn he was able to push a hex I could only get 1 division into......this next turn he needs to push a full 3 divisions to get any opening to Moscow and with the battering his units around moscow have already taken i dont know if he has the strength....as well alot of German air supply has been flow into the newly captured airbases basically supply all those german units on the ring to the north he needs to attack so they aren't completely worn down

If he can mass enough forces he might open it again just dont know if he has the strength....due to taking so much of his manpower points in 1942 the Soviet army has only slowly grown over the mud and winter of 1942/1943...he is still under 6M men in early 1943 now

So alot of his units are understrength still and not filling up

On January 24, 1943 in this alternate history Germany forces storm Moscow and Kremlin.

The Russian defenders left in the capitol weren't particularly strong after a couple week siege and it looks like he decided not to try and hold out in a long siege as each hex only had 2 divisions and a fortress unit.

At this point its up to Tacitcal if he wants to continue I honestly dont see much hope of him doing much for awhile.

I have an entire panzer corps in German reserves that have been on refit for a couple turns now and with how abysmal my current forward supply is due to German rail limits in the game I cant really deploy them offensively and the only place i need more defenses is by Astrakhan---where i get like no supplies so not deploying german armor there.

Maybe taking Moscow will free up the rail situation some of the Germans---but right now the hard limits on German supply mean anything past historical gets very difficult to sustain. I even tried a rail engineer on a lvl 9 rail depot in the city north of Moscow---still got 0 supply in---city is fully repaired and on a functioning rail line.

Anyway pictures of the final 2 assaults the southern part/W. Moscow was taken the week before.

Virtually no other movement of the frontlines other than local set piece attacks/counterattacks by both sides....the italians and Romanians at Astrakahn having the most trouble as i cant really supply them and just really keeping him occupied beating up on them lol.

Yes, he's done. So is this still ongoing? I noticed he's stopped updating his game vs. Malyhin on YouTube and was wondering if he's packed it up.

He says he wants to keep going so we are continuing at a slow pace.....about 1-2 turns a week at most the last couple months.

All thats happening is the Germans are reducing the soviet salient that was jutting into german lines to the NW of Moscow and have pushed/gained a chunk of ground in the 2 combat zones north of moscow----with moscow gone i cant imagine those units are getting much supply at all on a 1 single track line supplying all his forces up there. So seems the CVs are pretty low so been pushing where i can which was alot the last couple turns.

His hexes immediately to the north and east of Moscow are very strong and i really cant push them like 100+ defensive CV each and alot of my units are still recovering from the months long slog to storm moscow now that supply has finally improved with the moscow rail hub.

I have noticed that in general the Germans are getting more supply now that moscow is on the rail network....some areas still get nothing but the areas there were getting supply have been getting more at least which is nice.

I dont think he has a chance of pulling this back his replacement rate has now dropped to like 70k per week with half of it being returning wounded....only getting like 38k men a week now from manpower points......so with as weak as his army currently is and replacements now dropping off its going to be super hard for him to rebuild and make headway.....esp since now that im getting better supplies my units CV and ToE are both recovering finally without doing massive air drops every single turn from transports---which was starting to hurt from all the crashes.
