Command structure changes to follow.

As I am writing today, the race for Berlin has started. The Germans are offering no resistance across the entire frontline exceptation made to two front : Leningrad Front and Southern Front.

Ivan Konev was removed from command of Leningrad Front after his move to retreat from advancing German panzer divisions, instead of bracing the charge while Volkhov Front push for Riga. Although the move was approved by Stalin himself, and therefore, Konev could not be executed, I managed to removed him from his command. He will be recycled somewhere else where German resistance is not the greatest.

Central Front is where all of our best surviving Generals remains but they will be sent to Leningrad Front under command of Govorov and will thus push into Lithuania with Mikhail Kirponos ( Volkhov Front).

Several scattered pockets of Germans remains. The Pskov pocket is still being ressuplied by air. And although we have squadrons of Yak's protecting the area, the hundreds of planes the Germans sends every week often manage to get trough with minimal casualties.

Reconnaissance mission has started in force all over Poland and Germany. Not much is seen other than the enemy is either retreating or bringing in forces from Brest's railways and that Riga seems to be strongly defended. We expect the fighting near Riga to be brutal.

Thankfully, Northwestern Front is already closing on Koenigsberg, which will close land supplies to German troops in Lithuania.

Today Poland, tomorrow, the world !

The Air War is not terribly effective. With 2,000 sorties, the enemy only has 155 men killed, 2 tanks and 3 guns destroyed and 2 planes. We suffered 140 plane losses with 61 Pilot KIA.

All cav divisions were recalled and re-directed to STAVKA for command. They are pretty much all depleted, unready, or etc etc. They achieved great success, it is now time to put these men to rest (And I dont mean killing them!).

I have created a Summer Assault Force and Ivan Konev is going to lead them. It comprises of all airborne corps I could muster in the South, along with all Mech and Tank divisions.

They will be supported by a wide range of Support Units and will be charge of piercing trough enemy held area's. Such as the case here in the south where the enemy is offering resistance ( even encircled and captured some units in the Odessa sector. As you can see on the image below, some troops were caught in Odessa ( region still in my control). 9th army retreated just in time. This prompted my call for the Summer Assault Forces. They are just now entering the area of enemy resistance, will cut trough and re-capture Odessa. This is their first mission and we will be observing how they fare.

(Sorry for lack of nice images, Im lacking time this week)

Air warfare was changed and adapted. Huge losses and inneficiencies prompted it. Currently, only select Army Fronts and Commands will be receiving support.

Big ambition, little substance. Our spring march to Berlin is not going as great as we had planned. The enemy is putting everything it can to delay our advances and our troops are under-equipped, under-fed, under-supplied and most of them are unready to fight and some are even depleted. The railway lines, in some cases, are very far from our HQs and we need time to repair them.

We are not getting pushed back by the Germans but we are not advancing greatly either. An all stop order was sent last night to all commanders except Konev from the Summer Assault Forces. We will launch a second attempt at refitting and resupplying our troops while our operation to retake Odessa takes place.

Therefore, I present to you, Operation Pluto :
Kalinin Front (12).png
Kalinin Front (12).png (1.73 MiB) Viewed 188 times
A simple plan to re-take Odessa where the Summer Assault Forces of the Crimean Front led by Ivan Konev push forward.

Leaders were re-shuffled for the operation. Putting Konev in position of the Summer Assault Forces after having removed him from Leningrad Front for being too cautious might seem like a strange choice but it was in fact, a push to toughen him up. Now is his last chance to show that he is not a coward.

(quick note, Vatutin is actually in charge of 44th army, and not 30th as shown on the picture)

In other news, Mikhail Kirponos unfortunately suffered a most unfortunate...accident. Not to worry, his poor command results of 212 defeats to 15 victories had nothing to do with his hunting trip accident. Farewell Kirponos. You couldnt serve the Red Army well but Im sure you will serve your family well, which will benefit from a lifelong salary for your efforts.

Operation Pluto going as planned. Southern Armies retreated a little hoping to get more Rumanians to cross the river into the lion's mouth.

The Rumanians did not take the bait and retreated.

Northwestern Front has been decimated pretty much. I managed to encircle the Germans who encircled me but most troops are unready and depleted. The Germans seem to have concentrated a lot of effort there and it will pay off but..what is 1 victory in a sea of defeat. Im not that bothered.

I will still do everything I can to save them.

In other news, Kiev was just captured and this will allow me to link rail lines to Southern armies. My rail lines are in bad shape in the South but everywhere else has at least one rail line going to the frontline.

German Panzers managed to rout both tank divisions from the Crimean Front ( Summer Assault Forces ) :x

Despair. NW Front is again encircled. My offensives are not going well at all. Everyone else is staying put and resupplying. I have about 263 divisions that are unready. Any Northern Offensives has been cancelled. Holding Ground is now what they will do. Operation Pluto is still a go.

Looking at your rail repair screenshot, you have chosen a weird way to repair rail. Generally the most efficient path is to repair double rails first, as they can bring 2.5x amount of freight through them compared to single rails, and you do not have many rail repair units yet. It is also beneficial to connect lv 2+ railyards (shown when in rail movement mode) to the network, so there are more trains available.

Your NKPS near Kiev should connect it to the network through a double rail, either the one to Kursk or to Dnepropetrovsk. And AI-controlled rail repair units can be somewhat controlled, too. If you add them as support units to an unused Corps HQ, they will only repair rail within 5 hexes of that HQ (15 if sent to an Army HQ). This way you can concentrate repairs on a certain sector of the front.

Operation Pluto is starting to become a disaster as well. Heavy Panzer response from the Germans have prompted us to stay put. The Summer Assault Forces kept advancing as I (just discovered a new rail repair unit) and will make it push from Zaporozhye to Berezovka. Meaning, if the Germans tries to pin us, at least we will be well supplied in order to keep pushing for Odessa.

The destruction of NorthWestern Front :
NW1.png
NW1.png (1.03 MiB) Viewed 103 times

NW was rendered totally useless. We overextended and paid the price. It was worth a shot. A lot of Front are over the limit in numbers so NW will be re-organized into taking some of the loads. Some new Fronts also arrived, North Caucasus and Transcaucasus are now in route, they will take command of Bryansk and SW Front armies. In return, Bryansk and SW will be taking some of Western and Central.

The situation below :
