Operation Fischreiher II
Week 5
On the Northern front Kempf's Armee once again halts after reaching Sharya, both 2nd Baltic and 2nd Belorussian Fronts have little in the way of manpower to resist 8th Armee however the further east Axis forces advance through the Kazan region a wider gap grows on the Arctic Front, the Finnish Army is yet to defeat Soviet forces in the Arkhangelsk Region, LIV Armeekorps is ordered to push north and capture Konosha and threaten Red Army supply lines.
The advance further south is slowed after the capture of Cheboksary both 16th and 4th Armee's advance on a wide front, enemy opposition is minimal but with supply lines so long in the rear areas as the troops push through the forests of The Volga Uplands, weather is also a factor as it continues to change by the week and The Red Army still continues to resist against the odds.

There is heavy enemy air activity by The Western Allies as there bomber forces strike at a variety of industrial Targets in Germany and Holland, damage varied as our ground and air defences put up spirited resistance, the German Capital was also targeted by long range observation flights.
The battle for control of the skies over Normandy continues as our ground forces come under heavy attack from The US 8th and 9th Air forces hoping to soften our lines for a ground breakthrough, however German air units supported by large numbers of AA units have been inflicting heavy losses on attacking enemy formations, in an effort to reduce our air power over the landing sites enemy bombers begin striking at air bases across France.
Once again forward ground observers report Allied planes performing supply drops at the enemy landing site.

Over the Italian mainland enemy air operations appear to be reducing as there is no longer the blanket observation flights over the central and southern parts of the country although Rome and its surrounding environs were subjected to recon flights, there was some operations in Tuscany but Allied air operations centred around the tactical support the enemy ground assaults on our defence lines.
US 15th Airforce Bombers struck targets in lower Austria including Vienna, while damage was considerable to Oil and Heavy Industry facilities the enemy also suffered large plane numbers from ground and air defences.

More heavy fighting on the coast in the Bay of Naples as the enemy attempts to push 5th Pz Armee back with two armoured assaults, both attacks fail with SS units inflicting large losses forcing Allied troops to pull back to there starting positions.
Twenty miles inland Hube's Panzer troops face an even larger set of attacks, advancing on two fronts, four Allied Corps lead by the US II Corps clash with the HG and 15th Panzer Divisions which halt the first advance, the enemy regroups and two more attacks are launched throughout the week, XIV Pz Korps holds firm.
On the Adriatic side of the peninsula 10th Armee also comes under more pressure with British, Commonwealth and Free French forces attacking on a 30 mile front hoping to force a breakthrough, launching combined Inf / Armour assaults in an effort to find a weak point in our defence line, after a series of attacks which are unable to break our fortified positions Montgomery calls off further attacks.

The rain continues to fall in both Northwestern and Northeastern France and light mud on the ground impeding both sides operations, despite this the Allies attempt to break our lines by attacking towards St - Valery, Walther lucht's LXVI ArmeeKorps has taken over defence of the town and airfield as the US 1st Army and Brit XXX Corps launch a series of attacks hoping to retake the Port town and expand there beachhead, with armoured support Inf and Paratroop units launch direct assaults but fail to dislodge our forces, LXVI ArmeeKorps takes heavy losses but the Allies take more.
On the Northwestern side of the landing site General Herr's LXXVI Pz Korps comes under heavy attack from three sides, another huge tank battle takes place as The Brit 2nd Army along with elements of four US Corps attempt to push towards the Seine river, outnumbered 3 to 1 in manpower the line holds as Herr's Panzer's blunt the enemy advance and cause large casualties on the enemy.

LIV ArmeeKorps pushing north towards Konosha report the presence of a Soviet Headquarters unit in the town itself possibly the 58th Army, however recon units have not encountered any combat formations so far.
Further south 4th Armee units have virtually remained static since the capture of Cheboksary apart from XII ArmeeKorps pushing north towards Yoshkar-Ola, Walther Graessner's men now only 10 miles from the city, Soviet armour was spotted 30 miles southeast of Kanash but with no infantry support withdrew.

3rd Pz Armee advance has slowed, Novospasskoe is captured as Kirchner's Panzer's arrive and take up there positions on the front to the friendly gibes from the infantry who continue trudging through the mud and rain towards Syzran,on the right flank Wuthmann's XXX ArmeeKorps is also close to reaching there objective, with no major enemy units opposing the advance the capture of both cities seems all but certain.
Panzer's of the LVII roll past troops from 83rd Inf Div ( LIX ArmeeKorps )
On 2nd Armee's main front Salmuth consolidates the defensive line along the Volga River, 2nd and 4th Ukrainian Fronts seem to be positioning the remnants of the forces well back.
North of Stalingrad Brandenberger's Armee is fortifying there positions and refitting after the battles in the Rostov region, all but two enemy units continue to hold out, but is little hope of rescue, 9th Armee is low on manpower, with many units under strength and in need of rest. In and around the the Stalingrad sector Axis forces continue mopping up operations while maintaining pressure on the enemy garrison holding out in the suburbs, with weather turning bad once again and general exhaustion of the troops, commanders are in no rush to assault the defenders yet.
At OKH Headquarters General Tresckow with part of his staff, satisfaction with the success of Fischreiher II is clearly showing on the Generals face.

A new week of Allied air activity over occupied Europe sees large bombing raids against targets on the North Sea, also the enemy is concentrating attacks in northwestern Germany and along The Baltic Coast, the German Capital was hit but the numbers of enemy bombers were small compared to previous raids and damage to Berlin was light, also the heavy presence of our fighter units caused large losses to Allied bombers.
In France and Belgium where the bulk of enemy operations are being conducted once again saw the Allies strike at air bases, command and control centres and directly attacking ground forces along the front line at the invasion site, with most of our fighter units drawn off for interception duties across other parts of Europe German Flak defences were under heavy pressure to cover the troops on the ground.

This Week sees enemy air activity increase back to its former levels after the small scale attacks last week, the Allies launching massive Reconnaissance operations across the Italian mainland, bombing raids against Rail facilities and ground interdiction flights against Axis forces defending the front line south of Rome.
Our air units conducting large scale intercept operations in coastal waters between Corsica and the mainland, our AA units stationed with combat units accounted for a large number of enemy bomber losses.
In The Balkans the enemy once again launched long range bombing strikes at Rumania's Fuel and Oil facilities, damage was quite extensive with air losses on both sides also heavy.

7th and 15th Armee's continue to hold the Allies at bay at the beachhead so far but the weather has cleared and the massive enemy armour that been brought to the landing site could be the telling factor, seven Panzer Divisions all under strength are holding the Axis line together, Sep Dietrich's I SS Pz Korps is still not up to full strength after its first clashes with the Allied landing forces, the good news Wittmann's 501st Heavy SS Panzer Battalion which arrived the previous week without loss from Allied air attacks as the unit travelled from the south of France is ready for action.
Hoping for a breakthrough before our forces can launch our own counteroffensive Brit 2nd Army supported by US units assault Herr's positions, nine Allied divisions strike out at LXXVI Pz Korps entrenched troops, over 100,000 men attacking on three fronts, while German and Allied armour clash, while this is taking place US 1st Army now under the Command of Bradley launch a series of attacks towards St-Valery in an effort to dislodge LXVI ArmeeKorps, both Allied efforts fail resulting high losses on both sides.
