Bastogne Szenario

Post by Packo »

Hello,
I won the Bastogne Scenario against the Germans (AI) relatively easily with a big Victory.
Difficulty level = Very Hard
That encouraged me to try it out with the Germans.
I set the difficulty level to Very Hard, but I realized pretty early on that there was no way to win with the Troops I had.
I think that this Scenario is almost impossible to win with the Germans even on an easier difficulty level and I'm leaving it for now.
Against a Human opponent it probably wouldn't look much better if the opponent is reasonably good.
With a different Placement of the Units at the Start it might be doable for me, but not like this.
Has anyone here had similar Experiences with the Scenario ?

I don't recall that specific scenario, but I have a general reply in that given the terrain and the timing, it is a historically accurate game. A skilled opponent on defense will seize high ground with good cover on or rear crossroads and choke off Wehrmacht momentum. The even where they're successful and make progress their supply lines get more tenuous and drawn out. I measure how I did against the historic results and my own prior results, as I agree with you that German success against a competent opponent is unlikely.

Swamp Yankee68,
i started it again Yesterday on Hard.
On the first Day, due to the Weather and the lack of strong combat Units, the Focus is ONLY on carefully securing the Area and Supply Routes.
The AI seems to notice this and is causing me Problems, especially with the Supply Routes.
Unfortunately, I have little to Counter the Enemy's heavy Tanks on the first Day.
Open Terrain can quickly mean total Destruction.
You can't afford that at all in the short Scenario
because there is no Substitute to fill in the Gaps.
I actually thought that this Scenario was supposed to be an offensive Mission for the Germans
Unfortunately, Restarting multiple times is also a bit like Cheating.
Well, we'll see.

By the way, I miss a WITE3 from the Series.
Hope it wasn't the last Part.

I've had some great PBEM games of the main campaign, the initial successes of the Germans can be fun to try to extend.

Hope you enjoy the game.

Yes SwampYankee, I actually like it a lot. ( Steam = 284 Hours )
It's my Number Two right after WITP.
In terms of realistic Combat results it's even Number One.
The AI has done a very good Job so far.
So you don't have to rely on a human Opponent.
The important differences in Height, which are a bit confusing, are actually my only Criticism.
