1st battalion of PzGren always low on Carry points!

Post by gustmic »

Hi!

I'm playing "Wacht Am Rhein" and I noticed right from the start that my Pz.Gren, specifically always the 1st Bat, always lack enough Carry points vs Manp in order to get 100% motorized chance.
I have had to shuffle around, even if they have just been just deployed and not been in any fights where transports have been removed, having other units (2nd and 3rd, or HQ and/or create a new KG (for 3pp)) helping out with sharing their trucks or 251s. Sometimes there is no other way, if the 1st Battaion is full (no more adding transports from other battalions or HQs!), than to transfer SS Pz.Gren or Pz. Gren from the 1st bat to other units just to balance things out.

I have even noticed that if you just manages to compensate, e.g., having less than about 30 points difference then you don't get a notice on the "Unit weight & carry stats" showing that you have a "100% chance of being motorized" AND you are still on foot after having shuffled units to compensate for this.
Notice that if there is a larger difference, like 40-50 points or more, then there is no problem.

I am adding pics of thes two situations.
I am sure one can just start a new game and this shows up from the beginning.
If not, I have save files, that I am happy to share.

Just thought you wanted to know.
Don't know if anyone else have noticed this.
I am running win11 with ver 1.06 of Decisive Campaigns.

Thanks for the help!

In the first turn there is a random chance of broken/lost vehicles so the fast solution is detach a foot KG with some panzerschreck and 8cm mortars that soon can be useful moving offroad.

Thanks for the reply.
However, for me it is always the 1st battalion of a PzG regiment (SS or not) that suffer, and they always suffer from the start of the game (or when deploying new divisions) in terms of having too few carry points (i.e. transportation).
Is this historical or a bug?
They have about 80 points less than the limit giving them something like a 75-80% chance of being motorized.
I would expect them all to be at 100 when being deployed and ready.

I understand and is an easy fix (only change a % on the scramble table), but i try to simulate the real situation.
Also the SS Division had 1000/2000 men on foot from the start and Peiper used any captured Jeep or truck to motorize all his men. And i don't consider the fuel problem. Any vehicles arriving from the rear area soon stopped without fuel because to ensure secrecy no fuel reserve were supplied to individual vehicles.
An absurd situation occurred during last meeting of the commanders of the 7.Armee, Brandenberger had to intervene personally because one of the generals could not find enough fuel to return with his kubelwagen to his division.
The most amazing thing for the Allies was that nearly 50% captured German soldiers had a one meter flexible hose to suck fuel from any abandoned (enemy or friendly) vehicles.

Then, great!
I like it that it simulates history.
I was however a bit surprised that it always seemed to happen to the first battalion of a Pz.Gren regiment, and thus was thinking that it may not be a feature, but a bug.

Thanks for clearing that up!
