German OOB Errata

Post by JohnO36 »

I bought your Ardennes Offensive (Decisive Campaigns) game recently on Steam (10 December). I have been waiting for a battalion level game for the Ardennes for a very long time. Your new game, which looks and plays great, is everything I hoped and more. FYI, I am a 'veteran' of the old regimental level Windows 95 SSG Ardennes Offensive game from the late 1990s, and of the even older tabletop counter Avalon Hill Battle of the Bulge from the 1980s.

Unfortunately, I have discovered an error in the German OOB. Specifically, in the Wacht am Rhein Scenario, the Volksgrenadier Regiment 989 of the Volksgrenadier Division 277 is mislabeled as Regiment 289. This applies to both battalions as well as the the artillery unit for this regiment. Using the Intermediate Historical Unit Editor, the Export CSV also shows this error. It is also present in the Plan Martin scenario. I haven't checked the smaller Elsenborn scenario, or the Allied 'The Tide Turns' scenarios but it is probably present in all scenarios that use that unit. Your German OOB PDF file does show the correct unit number - the three regiments of VG Division 277 are 989, 990, and 991, this appears to simply be a typo that propagated into the game.

FYI, I do have the latest Version 1.06 of this game, which is what Steam is currently selling. Since it looks as though you are still actively editing the game, I thought you would want to know about this. I'm a bit surprised no one else reported this (or else I missed it on the bulletin board, very possible), but as a veteran of the old games it did kind of jump out at me.

Cheers!

Hi John,
Thanks very much for reporting !
You are right and is incredible that no one noted this (I start working on Ardennes in 2018).
I fixed the " 989. " in Wacht..,Plan...and Tide..., ( Elsenborn is correct ), for the next patch.

Davide

PS:
I still remember the day i download the free version of SSG TAO2 with my "fast" 56k modem.

Hi Davide,

That all sounds great - thanks for the response. I am greatly enjoying the game and have noted no other issues so far.

It turns out that the Simple Editor can easily correct the 289/989 error very easily before starting a new game - I didn't realize that until after I posted. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, there is no way to make this correction in a saved game.

Happy you like the game !

You can easily change the name of any unit during your turn clicking the unit name, very useful for giving a KG/Team a better or specific name.

Hi Davide. Thanks for this tip - I used it immediately and changed the regimental unit number to 989, but forgot to post back to you.

You gave me a smile mentioning the 56K modem and downloading the old SSG Ardennes Offensive game. I bought the game the old fashioned way in 1999 with a box and CD, which I still have, but it won't run in emulation mode on Windows 10 and the Mrs. is not onboard with a dual booting Win 10/ Win 95 PC. It was a good game but your new game is much better, really lots of fun and very realistic. It's good to see logistical issues receiving the appropriate attention. Cheers!
