Dynamic Patrol Zones (Stations)

Post by Talisman »

Hi,

Is it possible to assign aircraft to dynamic patrol zones (stations) that shift relative to the position of their parent formation?

For instance, if I wanted to create a standing CAP mission with a pair of F-14's 75nm out from their CSG, down a particular threat axis and have that patrol zone shift automatically relative to the position of the CSG as it sails along, is this achievable with the current misison / formation architecture?

Another common example would be a standing airborne ASW patrol relative to a parent formation of ships.

It would be cool... :)

No problem - simply make the reference points (RP) that define the patrol 'Relative' to the unit you wish the patrol to move with. Relative can be either fixed or rotating. Meaning the RPs will either rotate as the referenced unit (the carrier) changes direction which is perfect for most patrols especially ASW. Or the RPs will remain fixed in one sector as the referenced unit maneuvers - less frequent but useful if you want to keep your AEW units protected or you know that the threat is coming from one direction so that is where you put your CAP.

Don't forget to make the RPs for your prosecution zone 'relative' as well.

Hey, thanks for the snappy feedback!

That sounds like a quick and easy solution. I wasn't aware that you could make RP's relative or fixed as you would with ship stations in a formation.

I look forward to trying it out.

Cheers.
