Nobody ever talks about the Afghan Navy. Sad.

They had PT 76, add those to the game.

Re: Why no more Afghanistan?
I think the scenario "Under African Skies" simulates somewhat what a modern day Afghan scenario would be like. Responding to emergent calls for fire. I think that same type of AOR management is in other scenarios too, I just can't think of any off the top of my head.

Interesting article. I think you didn't read it or didn't understand it. Those munition expenditures and flight hours for a 6 month period for a single unit shows a high op tempo. I don't think it qualifies your statement that "CAS almost never happens" in fact the article you provided indicates quite the opposite. Some excerpts below, emphasis is mine...mustang191 wrote: Fri May 27, 2022 1:24 amhttps://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.co ... -war-crimeGunner98 wrote: Fri May 27, 2022 1:19 amNot sure where you're getting this information but I can confidently say that it is patently not true. There was a lot of CAS in Afghanistan, and Iraq and several other conflicts.mustang191 wrote: Fri May 27, 2022 1:09 am There were only ten warthogs in Afghanistan. 2000 sorties means a sortie per day.
Not enough happened in Afghanistan to justify scenarios. Also, CAS almost never happens in real life. The Korean War was the only time CAS sort of happened and it was a lot of friendly fire and bombing civilians.
So neither part of the situation works in CMO. At best you could simulate the Taliban hitting an f16 with a rifle.
What are the facts and figures behind your statement about Korea, that is new to me and I have looked at the war in detail.
I don't disagree about CMO not necessarily being the best platform for COIN scenarios, but if you make a statement like that you should a)know what your talking about and b) back it up.
Millions died in Korea but that's besides the point.
The point is that the statistics for CAS are easy to find. Like I said, Afghanistan was just ten warthogs flying a sortie a day. In CMO this is a very small scenario.
https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display ... ghanistan/
"While deployed, the 354th EFS Airmen, with half the number of airplanes, flew more than 10,000 hours in six-months. Approaching 2,500 sorties, that is more than 400 sorties a month, or a utilization rate of about 35, which is 210 percent the rate at home."
"From July thru December 2009, the squadron employed approximately 36,915 rounds of 30mm, 104 white-phosphorus rockets, eight MK-82's, nine GBU-12's and 78 GBU-38 JDAMs (all 500-lb. bombs), and one AGM-65E laser-guided Maverick missile."
Nearly 37k of 30mm, the plane carries a little more than 1k, so that indicates a very high level of use for CAS.
This article indicates 20k CAS sorties annually, for a figure of 54 sorties per day. I think you mistook the article you provided as a contribution throughout the entire conflict, when in fact it is featuring a single unit on a single six month deployment.

He has proven over and over again he doesn't read anything anyone posts, including his own posts. Still not quite sure what the game is, but its kind of fun.

They said there were ten warthogs in Afghanistan. 90% of warthogs died in the gulf war/damage and warthogs have not dropped a bomb since 2017. They strafe because the stores no longer work.Twistedpretzel wrote: Sat May 28, 2022 8:11 pmInteresting article. I think you didn't read it or didn't understand it. According to Military Balance Annual and Flight Global's World Air Forces, there are almost 300 A-10s active in both active units and in active USAF reserve.
In fact, just google A-10 re-wing project. The AF just invested a lot of money to upgrade them. They were still dropping ordinance out of Bagram, Afg. in 2020.
Come on...you're making this too easy. Can you at least try?

Military balance 2000 - 270 A-10s...Military Balance 2021 - 286 A-10s.
So they actually increased the number of Warthog.
I mean come on... This info is so easy to find. Give me something hard. Or are you up to it?

Do you even google anything?
"The A-10 force, flying more than 8,000 combat sorties, suffered only five A-10s destroyed (a loss rate of .062 percent). Twenty of these aircraft returned with significant battle damage, and forty-five others returned with light damage that was repaired between sorties"

I know reading is really hard for you, but give this a try...

If its too hard to read, just slow down and sound out the words. My seven year old was able to read above grade level by doing that. I know you can do it. We're all rooting for you.

There are plenty of damaged warthogs. Around 70 were damaged in the gulf war. 150 were deployed.
The first OA 10 unit was formed in 1987 with 160 aircraft. As warthogs fall apart more are converted. Given a service life of 6,000 hours and 300 per year, by Serbia basically all them were dead. Even by the gulf war 3/4 the life hours were gone. 160 warthogs were used in the gulf war, many of them OA-10.
Also, like I said, there are zero left capable of using bombs.

You really need to actually read the stuff we put up. The first step is to admit you have a problem. No one can help until you do that. Living with a secret like that is just not right. It'll be a release to ask for help. I can send you videos instead if you are set on not admitting you can't read.

I did read, I agreed with it, you never denied the planes were past airframe life.thewood1 wrote: Sun May 29, 2022 2:32 am You really need to actually read the stuff we put up. Re: Why no more Afghanistan?
Thats good progress. Admitting you looked at it, but just didn't understand it is a great first step. I think we can work with that. Now the next step is comprehension. This is usually the hardest next step. But lets now get ahead of ourselves. Let me know if some of the words don't make sense.
Re: Why no more Afghanistan?
Just in case people don't read the other threads, I want to spread the good news from the Tico thread...
"I stand corrected on the weight"
This is the best news I've heard today. You actually read and comprehended something. Starting out with small things like this is the best way get on the path to getting better.
Now, to keep the momentum, I'd suggest going back to all the other threads you disrupted since you joined a couple weeks ago and really take the time to read and understand all the responses and the great source material posted. It'll take some time, but we will all be patient. I'm sure you'll have a few setbacks here and there, but we're here to help. I'll take on the role of your sponsor. If you feel yourself slipping and not reading the stuff that you and other forum members post, I'll be there to talk you through it.
