The new sexy

In military design, form meets function and aesthetics are inconsequential. But wow, if this is the future of naval design, talk about sexy ship designs.

Will the future's naval warfare becomes a one-ship fleet loaded with everything it could fit in?

(Actually, it's the Soviet's idea -- the Kirov-class is designed to pit against a principal fleet by its own)

Cool looking ship. Not sure what it is using for ASM defense close in.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

A plastic warship?

No one said the design of realistic.. or even useful in some aspects. But you got to admit that it looks like a hotrod on water.

No missiles? No point defenses? That rail gun better be pretty good.

Does it not appear to have upward directed VLS ports built into the outriggers? And naturally the PDS would be a combination of: soft defense, electronic defenses, hard defense, and DEWs.

I make out what looks like, 48xVLS tubes (possibly multi-celled), 4xDEWs, (possibly each attacking 5 individual targets or focusing firing on one or more (maybe 10!?) Beams on a single target, from at least 2 turrets simultaneously. Below and aft of the VLS tubes, there are long rectangular hatches that could hide torpedo launchers, possibly for ASW/Torpedo defense, and maybe larger tubes for heavy weight torpedoes. That odd looking cluster atop the PLANAR array might also house DEWs as well. The vessel also seems to have a very well equipped aircraft operations capability, large enough to host several multi-mission attack VTOLUAVs.

With an equivalent level of technologies including: LO, ECM/ECCM, sensors, DC, (armor???) the ship could probably be better defended than a current day CVN.

According to the article:“The ship would not have a conventional mast but a tethered quad-copter which could be flown above the ship. This tether would be made of carbon nanotubes and cryogenically cooled in order to transmit significant power to the quad-copter for multi-spectral sensors and act as a high-power (i.e. laser) weapon to knock down enemy missiles or aircraft.
