Question about submarine operation

Post by Mgellis »

Is there a way to assign a submarine to a mission doctrine that will have it normally operate at shallow or some other depth, but make it automatically pop up every once in a while (say every two hours or every four hours) to periscope depth to get more information on nearby surface contacts and/or be in communication with other units again (if realistic submarine communications have been selected)? Or just do it whenever there is an unknown contact?

Would this be a good option to add for submarines? (Probably in the depth setting menu when setting up missions, something like adding an option to "go to periscope depth for X minutes every Y hours unless under attack" or "go to periscope depth if contact side remains unknown for X minutes or more, unless under attack." Obviously, if there is a known hostile nearby, you would dive and stay down.)

Naturally, one can do this manually, but if you're setting instructions for a non-player side, it might be a useful addition if there isn't already a way to do this. (I suppose you could do it with lua, but that might be a bit complicated.)

Thoughts on this?
