Mission 4 Gates of Hell Airfields

Post by irishluck »

Just played through this mission, and aside from setting you up to fly nighthawk strikes in broad daylight (First Night does this too, ironically), a fairly large issue with scenario 4 is the use of single unit airfields to host the objective bombers. Is it the mission designers intent that we let these takeoff and deal with them airborne, no matter how well the player does? I dont know if this changed with a game update in the past, but as it stands, its impossible to detect these guys with recon, and impossible to attack them on the ground. I can bomb the crap out of the "open parking" next to the airfield, but that does nothing, since they are single unit fields. It seems a bit game-y to expect the player to go "well its a single unit field so i guess i wont even try to strike them and just wait for the bombers to takeoff", especially when they are the fields closest to friendly forces.

If theres some mechanic im not understanding, please let me know, i've been starting at these guys in god view trying to figure out if theres any action i can even take.

Thanks

Irishluck,

Unfortunately, that is a trait for single-unit airbases. They are composed of "built-in" air facilities. Since they are not discreet units aircraft cannot be detected. The alternative of course is to build an airbase with component parts - hangers, runways, access points, etc. This will make the scenario larger whereas the single unit base provides the necessary facilities and has a much smaller "footprint". Single unit bases are generally used to provide an aircraft capability and the base itself is not a target.

I've been delving into Desert Storm again, haven't played since release, but hearing players complain about older DLC's not working good with V1.06 I wanted to try out some of my old DLC's.

In this particular scenario he is right about but the single unit airfields, there are 3 parking spots next to it.

What I'm seeing is a LUA error, and I think its related to the parking slots not being populated by the fighters in the single unit airbase.

Im not a LUA person, and only know very basic editing skills in CMO.

Not sure what to do about this. Need any info?

Hey Dannyp19,

I've examined the Gates of Hell scenario and can't find any airfield/aircraft problems. Please let me know what the specific issue and error message are.

Thanks,

Hi stilesw, here is one I see pop up a lot in a few of the scenarios.

Lua script execution error: [string "Iraq - Spawn Aircraft (Commercial Pts > 10)"]:38: bad argument #1 to 'randomseed' (number has no integer representation)

I'll post more errors as I see them.

Thank you.

Some more specific information would help. What events are happening when these messages occur? If possible, can you upload the scenario when this happens. I'm not having any problems on my end.

Thanks,
