Just a small question about the SM-3

Command: Chains of War is a DLC for Command: Modern Operations. 20 minutes into the future, a spark erupts in the Korean peninsula that will lead to a theaterwide conflagration embroiling the entire Western Pacific and drag all major powers into it.

Just a small question about the SM-3

Post by Eboreg »

I've been playing "Air Sea Battle" lately (well, not quite lately due to some issues in RL) and I actually intend to knock as many Chinese SAR satellites as possible. Since I like to micromanage strikes rather heavily, the way I've targeted these satellites was to just allocate two SM-3s to each satellite and hope that it enters the DLZ (while maintaining strict EMCON). However, with nearly a day of in-game time played out and no SM-3s firing at all, I'm beginning to wonder if I actually need to turn on certain radars to guide the SM-3s as well as what other conditions need to be met before the SM-3 fires besides range and DLZ.

The SM-3 requires a radar to guide it.

So... should I turn on all "ABM Mod" search radars?

Yes, those are the only ones that can detect targets that are that high. "ABM" stands for "Anti-ballistic missile". The SM-3 should be CEC capable so if you have a ship that's in a better position to illuminate the satellite you could fire it using that ships data.
