Newbie question sprint and drift

Does this work - I go into formation editor and tick the sprint and drift box but the ships keep sailing at 8 knots which is the speed i set them at
When I go back into the formation editor the sprint and drift box is no longer ticked

Can we see a save of the situation? There may be a specific reason that this is happening.

A couple of potential things might be going on.
1) Sprint & drift applies only the ship that's selected when you're using formation editor, not the whole formation.
2) If the speed is too high there won't be any time to drift.
3) For individual ships, you need to have a speed selected for the average speed before you can sprint & drift.

The prevent cavitation flag could also cause this
