Main window map issue

Post by I1066 »

Hi!

I have an issue I have now encountered twice in the Korean missile crisis scenario, not sure the issue is connected to it though.

The map part of the main window stops working to some extent. For example, it is no longer possible to scroll or zoom the map with the mouse/keys nor reposition the map by clicking a unit, which is outside the current view, in the Order of Battle window. Clicking a unit in the map changes the displayed unit in the left side panel but the marker around the currently active/selected unit on the map is not updated/drawn/visible for/around the clicked unit.

I get the impression the game itself is actually still working/running since if I un-pause it I can hear sound effects and see new log messages appearing in the log window.

A save file won’t help since when you restart the game and load the save file everything works again, so instead I have a full memory/debug dump if anyone is interested in investigating this further. It is huge, around 4.5 GB uncompressed, and with maximum compression with 7-zip it’s down to 410 MB, so still very large.

Let me know how to best transfer the debug dump.

You can add files to the forum in the form of gif/txt/jpg and zip if i remember correctly. Use the Attachments section at the bottom of the post and Add files.

I am pretty sure 10Mb is the size limit.

update/clarification: with "left" in " Clicking a unit in the map changes the displayed unit in the left side panel" I mean "right"

Happened again, this now the third time this has happened in the Korean missile crisis scenario.

Can you write down the specifications of your system?

Is Command running on the integrated graphics? If your system has a dedicated GPU and Command is running on the integrated card, can you try switching to the dedicated one?

Is the bug only happening with this scenario?

You can also upload a video to some platform and link it here.

The mem-dump can be useful for sim freezes, not sure in this case, but keep it and if we'll needed it, you can upload it via wetransfer link.

If this a laptop, my first guess would be "Windows is being stupid and pins Command to run on the iGPU rather than on the discrete GPU".

Is this the case?

Below is a copy of basic info on my machine from MSInfo.exe. I hav also included a DxDiag report. Let me know if this enough data on my machine or if you need something more/else.

The game (command.exe) runs on the Nvidia card, it has been configured to do so both in the NVidia control panel and in the newer settings for this in Windows 11. Windows task manager also starts to show that the Nvidia card is in use when the game is running.
I do not have a video of the issue, and the issue is not present at this moment.

I did notice something new last time it happened; I could lower the in-game sound level for game sounds, but I could not uncheck the checkbox to completely turn of the use of "game sounds". When the checkbox was clicked it remained checked.

I never encountered this issue before in the game (nor any other game for that matter) and so far only in the "The Korean missile crises" scenario, and I have played a lot of scenarios many times on this machine.
