On the topic of ambient sound

Post by Yankee66 »

When I am playing, I like a bit of ambient sound with my game.
Just a bit of unobtrusive background noise, fitting the overall theme of the game.

As Command doesn't have something like that, I made my own.
Well... I didn't really make it, but I took an old sound mod by Peter Wilster for "Sub Command", and looped the ambient noise files. It's not heavy on the chatter, more like a background "machine humming", but it fits the mood of the simulation for me. I have it playing on WinAmp in the background.

I am thinking of mixing a couple more soundfiles in, to get a little more of a "CIC" feel to it, but for now, that's what I am currently using.

If anyone is interested, I put it up for download:

Edit:

2nd version of the ambient sound MP3, now with more radio chatter in the background:

This is the type of sound that we need. Not combat and explosions since your are in the command room and not in every ship or plane.

I did one more version where I mixed radio-chatter into the background, for a little more "CIC-feel" to it.
Again, one easy to use MP3-file, roughly an hour long.

Thanks, Tofke. That is part of the chatter I mixed in. :)

I have to register on that side prior to download? Any other source? Interested!

I wonder why that is. I tried it from different computers and it works by just clicking the download button.
I will see to upload to a different source, though.

Edit:

I usually go to Youtube and search for appropriate ambient music. For example if the scenario is classic NATO vs USSR i search for 'russian ambient', 'soviet ambient' etc. Usually you can find some good ambient music with fitting theme. Alsmany of the songs are quite long so youdont have to manually change the music very often.
