New scenario for testing: Caravan, 1982

Post by Stanley_The_Rolmate »

Hey everyone, I've got a new small, short but still challenging for you all to test:

Caravan, 1982

Since the start of the Iraqi invasion, the northern Persian Gulf has been the site of an intense naval war between the Iranian and Iraqi navies. Most of the fighting has been centered around Iraqi attempts to stop the flow of vital material to the port of Bandar-e Emam Khomeyni. The Iranian navy and air force have devoted significant forces to protect the convoys. Slightly over a year ago, the Iraqi navy first deployed a new weapon in their battle against the convoys, the French Exocet anti ship missile. A few hours ago, Unit 114 of the Directorate of Technical Equipment detected another Iranian convoy departing from Bushehr.

Update 9-12-2024 V1.1

- Changed missions Iran

Thanks for the new scenario, tested :)

SPOILER ALERT

Got a triumph with 161 points.

Seems strange to get this result with so many targets around escaping.

Fortunately points are also given for hitting targets, because the Osa Patrol boat fires to a different ship each time after a long reloading :)

On the iraqui side there is a building with an observer, does it have any practical use?

There are also 4 SAM batteries, but there was no attack to defend from.

Did not find any typos, except perhaps Osa instead of OSA. Also in the briefing it is said that the Osa just left the Umm Qasr naval base, and it is only an air base.

There is a Helion book on this topic. Did you use it?

Thanks for your reply!
Yes I did use that book haha :D I've mostly based it around the attack on page 33(I think) though the osa isn't mentioned specifically, just an unidentified Iraqi ship.
Well, historically the Iraqi's would usually hit 1 maybe 2 ships during most attacks, so they would've probably considered your result a triumph.
I'll probably still change the scoring a bit though. Did the F-4 ever show-up to strike the osa? The observation post was placed before the radar and doesn't really serve a purpose. The SAMs are there for show.

Then your scenario reflects perfectly what happened.

The F-4 indeed showed up and tried to shoot the Osa, but was intercepted and pursued by the Iraqui ACs and preferred to retreat and fight another day :)
