Dealing with Unfriendly maritime surveillance

Post by Knightpawn »

When in command of a carrier group, unfriendly air maritime surveillance does not "respond" to air interdiction (they wont turn back) and they continue course. As a result the enemy learns where the group is and can launch devastating missile attacks. (Showcase Ford and Nicaraguan Missile Crises are mentioned just as two examples). How do you deal with this situation when the ROE as ordered by White House is weapons tight, do not fire unless fired upon?

While I'm not a great tactitian I choose to abide by the letter of my orders in this situation, but cover the contact with my missiles. As soon as I see anything that looks like a missile inbound, the first one fired goes towards the tattletale.

If the MPA should start flying away from me before I detect anything, I let it move off for a bit and then alter heading at least 90° from my current heading for a while to throw off any dead reckoning. Not great at preventing at attack, but at least it means I don't need to worry about political fallout.

Now if we're in PPI zulu...

In any scenario I build or play, I set up a no-fly zone within x-nm of my units in international waters. On the AI side, a designer should be setting a no-nav zone through its patrol mission position. Otherwise, I shoot them down.
